Amazon Prime Video has returned with season 2 of Breathe Into The Shadows, with Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role. Season 1 was a big hit, and Abhishek earned a good name for his OTT debut. So let’s see how season 2 is.

Story:

The second season starts exactly where season one ended. The Ravan killer will be kept in a mental asylum for treatment for three years. When things are going fine, another guy named Victor (Naveen Kasturia) helps the killer escape the asylum. He again starts his killing spree, which becomes a headache for the police department. Kabir Sawant (Amit Sadh) takes charge once again in this case. Why did Victor help the Ravan killer? Did the Ravan killer complete his ten killings? Did the police catch hold of him? Are Avinash Sabharwal (Abhishek Agarwal) and his family safe? Watch the show to know the answers.

Plus Points:

Abhishek Bachchan shocked everyone with his tremendous performance in season 1. He just continued where he left it off in the second season. His performance is commendable, and it is indeed a challenging role to play. But the star actor pulled it off with ease. He has perfectly shown the variations required for his role and packs a punch. His body language and emotions are spot on, and he truly is the biggest positive thing for the show.

The surprise package in this new edition is Naveen Kasturia of TVF Pitchers fame. He gets the supporting role of the Ravan killer and is a huge value addition. His performance is simply brilliant and brings the required depth to the series. After Abhishek and Naveen, Amit Sadh got a good role, and the actor did well. Amit brings a lot of impact as a Police official, and his screen presence is superb. Moreover, Saiyami Kher’s subplot is well-etched and linked to the story. Nitya Menen does well in her limited role in this new season.

There are good twists here and there in the series, which are well-placed, and those that come at the end are shocking and unexpected. The second season is kept short, unlike season 1, and becomes an advantage to this crime thriller. The excellent background score makes the viewers more engaged in the show.

Minus Points:

The main issue is that the show becomes predictable in many instances. We already know through season 1 that the antagonist would continue his killings, but the manner in which they are presented here is disappointing. More efforts in writing were required to reduce the predictability. Most of the time, we know what’s going to happen, and this is where the creators should have thrown more surprises to make the show interesting.

The logics go for a toss in a few episodes, and it seems that the slayer is committing murders easily without getting caught every single time. The police investigation angle was not as good as in season 1, and this is one more aspect where the writing department faltered.

The reason behind a few murders isn’t justifying, and thus the emotional angle was also missing here. Hence, the show seems to continue until the assassin completes his target of ten killings. Better reasoning could have made a lot of difference.

Technical Aspects:

The production values are lit, and it is evident that the makers have spent a bomb on the series. Music director Karan Kulkarni tried to uplift even normal scenes with his background score, and he was highly successful. The cinematography by
Bharathwaj is neat, and a few sequences looked incredible with his work. The editing is decent.

Mayank Sharma, the director, didn’t impress with his work entirely with the new season. He should have come up with a better narration to avoid the predictability factor, and hence the few twists don’t outweigh the flaws. Better writing and screenplay were necessary to make it more appealing. Thus the second season is not good as the first one.

Verdict:

On the whole, Breathe Into The Shadows Season 2 has splendid performances from the lead cast and good twists at places. But the predictability, lack of emotional depth, and convenient writing make this new season a passable watch this weekend. You can give it a try if you like watching crime dramas.
