Malayalam movie, Bro Daddy marks the second directorial venture of actor Prithviraj Sukumaran. He has again directed Mohanlal in Bro Daddy after the hit movie Lucifer. The film has been released on Disney Plus Hotstar today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

John Kattadi (Mohanlal) and Annamma (Meena Sagar) are happy couples even after 25 years of marriage. On the other hand, Eesho (Prithviraj Sukumaran) is their only son who works in Bengaluru and is in a live-in relationship with Anna (Kalyani Priyadarshan) the daughter of his dad’s friend (Lalu Alex). One fine day, a life-changing issue happens in the lives of both Eesho and Anna. What is that issue? How did they approach their families to find a solution? To find the answers, you need to watch Bro Daddy movie.

Plus Points:

Firstly, we need to talk about Mohanlal and his outstanding performance. He performed his role with so much ease. His comedy timing and mischievous actions will evoke a lot of laughs. Besides, Pirthiviraj also performed well as a confused son. Lalu Alex lived in his character as a caring yet innocent father.

Kalyani Priyadarshan fits her role well and she also delivered her finest performance. Meena and Kaniha did justice to their roles. The situational comedy between the lead pair and the male leads made Bro Daddy worth watching.

Minus Points

The story is nothing new. In the first half, the narrative has a racy screenplay but becomes dull in the latter half. It looks rushed and is speeded up during the climax.

A few scenes in the second half are a bit lengthy. To say, scenes related to Unni Mukundan and Soubin Shahar felt like hurdles to the main story.

Technical Aspects:

Production values by the producer, Antony Perumbavoor, are nice. Thanks to the cinematographer, Abinandhan Ramanujam, for his rich and attractive visuals, which you can witness on screen. The background score by Deepak Dev played a crucial role in making the viewers sense the mood of the story. Editing by Akhilesh Mohan might have been crispy in the second part. Finally, to talk about Prithviraj’s direction, he handled the well-known story in a neat manner. He handled both comedy and emotions in a good way.

Verdict:

On the whole, Bro Daddy is a star-studded family drama that deals with a serious issue in a funny way and ends on an emotional note. The situational comedy is handled well barring a few unnecessary scenes. Mohanlal and Prithviraj give some finest performances and make Bro Daddy a passable time pass watch at home.
