This Telugu New Year, Vishwaksen has come up with the film Das Ka Dhamki to entertain the audience. Apart from acting, he himself directed the movie. Nivetha Pethuraj is the leading lady, and Dhamaka writer Bezawada Prasanna Kumar penned the story. Let’s see how the film is.

Story:

Krishna Das (Vishwaksen) is a waiter in a luxury hotel who aims to make it big in life. One day he meets Keerthi (Nivetha Pethuraj) and falls for her instantly. He conceals the fact about his profession and makes Keerthi believe that he is affluent. On the other hand, there is Dr. Sanjay Rudra (Vishwaksen), the lookalike of Krishna Das, who is the CEO of SR Pharma Pvt. Ltd. Sanjay wishes to see a cancer-free world and invents a miracle drug. While Sanjay Rudra is about to introduce his drug into the market, he dies in an accident. Meanwhile, Keerthi gets to know the truth about Krishna Das, and he loses his job afterwards. To save the Pharma company, Sanjay’s uncle (Rao Ramesh) brings Krishna Das in place of Sanjay. What happens later? How did it change Krishna’s life? The movie has the answers.

Plus Points:

Vishwaksen is a very good performer who has shown his mettle with his previous flicks. With Das Ka Dhamki, Vishwaksen proved that he could fit into a commercial hero role as well. As Krishna Das, the actor is a livewire and makes the movie watchable with his antics and comedy timing. He is effortless with his performance, and the ease with which he acted is lovely to watch. He has shown an ample amount of variation for both characters. In a few scenes, the actor’s performance is first-rate.

The first half, though, lacks any story, keeps moving at a brisk pace, and the comedy and the entertainment factor worked pretty well for the most part. The scenes involving Vishwaksen, Hyper Aadi, and Jabardast Mahesh came out well. The trio evoked a good amount of laughs with their comedy timing and histrionics.

Nivetha Pethuraj plays a very glamorous role in Das Ka Dhamki, and she looked radiant on screen. Her chemistry with the male lead is sparkling. The fun angle is nicely maintained even in the romantic portions keeping the audience invested. Rao Ramesh, Prudhvi, and others are okay in their roles.

Minus Points:

There was a lot of talk about the second half, in particular before the film’s release. The makers assured that this part would be one of its kind, shocking the viewers. But for all the hype that was created around it, the second hour really doesn’t do proper justice.

The story is very simple, and it is something that we have seen in multiple movies. To make up for this, many twists were brought into the film, one after the other. The endless twists keep coming till the climax, and this is where the movie went downhill.

The issue is these twists lack conviction and look very forced. The abrupt editing also confuses the audience to an extent. It is very much visible that as the movie lacks substance, these twists were placed to keep the proceedings going. The sugar coating given with the entertainment can’t hook the attention completely. The cancer drug angle is not handled well, and the scenes that come in this regard are boring. The item number over the end seems misplaced, derailing the impact. A terrific actor like Rohini is wasted in a role that lacks any significance.

Technical Aspects:

Leon James did a pretty good job with his background score, and some songs were good on screen. Dinesh K Babu’s cinematography is elegant, and the movie looks quite attractive in every single frame. The editing is below-par. The production values are too good.

It is really a tough job to act and direct a movie. Vishwaksen was good as an actor in Das Ka Dhamki, but he couldn’t impress entirely with his directorial skills. The potential is visible, but it didn’t translate effectively on to the screen. The twists not only look forced, but they can also be guessed in advance. The second half needed more caution. The way Vishwaksen induced comedy is good, though.

Verdict:

On the whole, Das Ka Dhamki entertains partly. The film has a decent first half and a below-par second half. A simple story is presented with a bit of entertainment and many unsatisfactory twists. Vishwaksen is lively, but the movie doesn’t live up to the hype completely. You can give the film a shot but have your expectations in check.
