Dhimahi, with the tagline Jaya Jaya Hai Mahishasura Mardhini, released in cinemas today. The film marks young actor Sundeep Pagadala’s silver screen debut. Directed by Naveen Kante and Saahas Pagadala, the film is produced by Virat Kapur And Saahas Pagadala on Captain Cook Films banner. Check out our review to find out how the movie is.

Story:

Karthik (Sundeep) is a successful surgeon in the USA. Karthik’s sister Maitri’s (Soujanya) little daughter Dhimahi aka Mahi (Aashika Pagadala) means the world to Karthik. He adores Mahi as much as he loved his dead mother. Just when Karthik’s life is going smoothly, Mahi gets kidnapped and then murdered, leaving the whole family heartbroken. Karthik tries to catch his niece’s killer by talking to her soul through necromancy. The rest of the movie is all about Karthik’s quest to find out Mahi’s killer.

Plus Points:

The core concept of talking to the souls of the dead and the narrative laced with emotions and revenge drama are quite good. Certain scenes in which hero Karthik talks to his dead niece’s soul and finding out her killer are impressive. Sundeep Pagadala’s role as the main character in this movie, his emotional and revenge tracks and the injustice done to actress Ashika Pagadala’s character are worth mentioning about.

A few emotional and action scenes and the rest of the sequences are okay. Lead actor Sundeep does a fine job and even heroine Nikita Chopra impresses with her realistic performance. Sreejith Gangadharan and Soujanya come up with decent performances too, along with the rest of the cast.

Minus Points:

There have been innumerable movies based on the themes of ghosts and spirits loaded with horror elements in Telugu cinema. Dhimahi joins the bandwagon now. Hero Karthik tries to meet his dead niece to find out her killer. But, after he meets her soul, their track should have been given a proper ending. Even the main idea behind the actual story could have been well worked out.

Apart from the lackluster narrative, certain scenes in Dhimahi unfold at a lethargic pace, while the main conflict is not dealt with impressively. The main characters are not connected properly, and the hero’s graph lacks consistency. Even though the director tries to create interest in the first half with an interesting core concept, a few scenes missing logic and the lack of an arresting screenplay work against the movie. The director begins the movie well with engaging scenes, but quickly diverts the narrative with an incoherent screenplay.

Technical Aspects:

The emotions in the story work well with an interesting plot. The songs composed by music director Sharon Ravi fail to register. The cinematographer explores the locations impressively with natural visuals. Editing is also not up to the mark. The production values by the producers Virat Kapoor and Saahas Pagadala are good.

Verdict:

Dhimahi is an emotional revenge drama laced with horror elements. The emotions worked well in certain sentimental scenes. However, the slow paced screenplay and the lack of interesting elements in the second half are the major drawbacks of the movie. On the whole, Dhimahi fails to click with its lackluster narrative. The film is strictly for those audiences who love the horror genre. But keep your expectations in check while watching the movie.
