Arun Vijay and mass director Hari have come together for the first time with a film titled Enugu. The movie has hit the screens today and let’s see how it is.

Story:

Ravi(Arun Vijay) is the youngest one in the PRV family. His step brothers(Samuthirakani, Bose Venkat, and Sanjeev) are much addicted to caste. Due to an issue between PRV and Samudram’s family, Samudram’s (Aadukalam Jayabalan) son Bachi (KGF Ramachandra) gets killed accidentally. Bachi’s twin brother Lingam (KGF Ramachandra) and his father Samudram decide to take revenge by killing everyone in the PRV family. What happens next? Did Lingam take revenge on the PRV family? Did Ravi save his family from Lingam? These answers can be known only after watching the film.

Plus Points:

Arun Vijay is fantastic in his role and is truly the biggest asset and carries the entire film on his shoulders. Be it the action or emotional scenes, he did a great job. The entire first half is high on entertainment as the humor showcased is good.

Director Hari makes the best use of Yogi Babu in this family drama as there are few hilarious episodes involving the comedian. The love track between Arun Vijay and Priya Bhavani Shankar is pleasant to watch on screen. Priya gets a meaty role and was impressive.

Radhika and Ammu Abhirami were good in their roles. Though the story is routine, the treatment is somewhat different when compared to Hari’s previous flicks. The climax is another plus as it is ended on a different note.

Minus Points:

Enugu is quite lengthy as close to fifteen to twenty minutes should have been chopped off. After an engaging first half, things get too slow in the latter half. The family drama is not that engaging and gets more boring for the audience during the second half. Also, we get a feeling that the story is getting deviated.

The powerful portrayal of the antagonist in the first half gets sidelined after a point in time. The villain’s role doesn’t have much scope and screen time in the second half which is disappointing after a good intro. Had the director taken care of this aspect, the film would have been even better.

Technical Aspects:

The camera work by Gopinath is truly appreciable. The film’s premise is set in the coastal region and he captured those locations beautifully. We get to see a lot of single-take fight sequences and stunt choreographer Arasu did excellent work.

GV Prakash’s songs are not good on screen. But he did a fair job with BGM, which elevates a few scenes. Production values are rich and the dubbing is pretty good. The action episodes are composed well. Dialogues are also well written.

Coming to the director Hari, he managed to do a decent job with his narration. Though the storyline sounds simple, the mass director managed to satisfy the audience with elements that would easily connect to the masses. He avoided loud sequences which we generally get to see in his films.

Verdict:

On the whole, Enugu is a passable family drama with a good premise. Even though the story is routine and gets dragged at certain places, this masala flick has a few enjoyable moments with terrific performances from Arun Vijay making it an okay watch for commercial movie lovers.
