After the blockbuster Baby, Anand Deverakonda is back with a crime comedy, Gam Gam Ganesha. Directed by Uday Bommisetty, the film hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Ganesh (Anand Deverakonda) and his friend (Emmanuel) are small-time crooks. Ganesh loves Shruti (Nayan Sarika), but much to his shock, he faces a major setback in life. Ganesh decides to strike big in life by committing a massive crime, but his plan fails miserably. How Ganesh succeeded in life is what the movie is about.

Plus Points:

After Baby, Anand Deverakonda got a completely different character, and he did justice to it. The young actor has shown good variation in performance, and his energy levels were solid. Anand’s comedy timing is also good, and the actor worked hard to get this aspect right.

Emmanuel is perfect as Anand’s sidekick. The fun banter between the duo is too good to watch. The movie has some neat comedy portions in both halves, which will tickle the fun bones. Vennela Kishore brings the house down with his antics. He is superb as Organ David, and the comedy track involving him is entertaining.

Minus Points:

Instead of telling an honest story, the director focussed more on entertainment. This, in one way, is a big drawback to Gam Gam Ganesha. We get a feeling that the story is not moving forward in several scenes. Especially in the second half the makers ran out of ideas to keep us engrossed.

The set-up and the core idea aren’t unique, and hence, this crime comedy lacks the wow factor. We have seen umpteen number of movies based on the similar subject, and there is nothing remarkable plot-wise. Nayan Sarika and Pragati Srivastava looked good on screen, but they had absolutely nothing to do.

The emotional angle in the second half looked artificial. The film tries to throw light on things like greed, fear, and conspiracy, but the narrative lacks depth to convey them effectively. Though some fun portions evoke laughs, we don’t really connect to the characters or the proceedings.

Technical Aspects:

Chaitan Bhardwaj’s songs are neat, but the background score could have been better. The cinematography by Aditya Javvadi is neat, and the production values are decent. The editing is fine.

Direction by Uday Bommisetty is below par. As the story isn’t new, the screenplay should have been gripping with some new elements. The proceedings don’t have a proper flow for the most part, and the story lacks progression in the second half.

Verdict:

On the whole, Gam Gam Ganesha is not the kind of film one would expect from Anand Deverakonda after Baby. The story and setup aren’t new, and the movie lacks a cohesive narrative to bind all the characters. There are some really good fun moments, but they aren’t sufficient to offer a satisfactory experience.
