A web series named MY3, starring Hansika Motwani in the lead role, is now out on Hotstar. The series is based on the Korean show “I Am Not A Robot.” Currently, MY3 is available for streaming in multiple languages, and let’s see how it is.

Story:

Adithya Chandrasekhar (Mugen Rao), the Chairman of the Adithya Group Of Companies, leads a lonely life. There is a strong reason behind him leading a solitary life. One day, Adithya learns about a scientist named Eliyas (Shanthnu), who designed a humanoid robot named MY3. Eliyas creates the robot based on his girlfriend Mythri (Hansika), but they both part ways due to one incident.

Adithya likes the robot created by Eliyas and tells the latter he wants to have the robot for 3 months on a lease basis. Problems start for Eliyas and his team when the MY3 robot malfunctions. The scientist seeks the help of his ex-girlfriend Mythri to act as the robot. What did Mythri do? Did she accept the request of Eliyas? Why is Adithya leading a lonely life despite being a millionaire? This is what the series is about.

Plus Points:

The way the protagonist’s character is designed is very good. The reason why Adithya, played by Mugen Rao, lives a lonely life is convincing. Mugen Rao did a superb job with the series, and he portrayed a wide variety of emotions present in his character neatly.

Hansika is superb as both MY3, the robot, and Mythri. She is the heart and soul of the series, and the actress performed it to the tee. The way she does comedy and exhibits frustration is too good. She is exceptional in the emotional scenes as well.

The series offers a few genuinely comedic moments. The very idea of the series is pretty interesting, and the makers got it right with regard to the principal cast. Shanthnu did a supreme job as a scientist. Janani, Sakthi, and Abhishek are fine in their respective roles.

Minus Points:

The idea is exciting, but MY3’s screenplay isn’t entirely gripping. There are entertaining moments, but the problem is that the series is stretched for no reason. Had it been a 6-7 episode series, MY3 could have been highly engaging. Especially the last few episodes are a tad too long.

The director takes more time to establish the principal characters initially, and the story takes off from the mid-episodes. Hansika keeps fooling the hero throughout, and logics go for a toss in a few scenes. The pacing gets extremely slow at times, and the editing team could have done a much better job.

Anish Kuruvilla and his son’s track didn’t work well. Also, there is a subplot involving PVR Narayanan, but it isn’t linked well to the main plot and just adds to the runtime.

Technical Aspects:

Ganesh’s background score is fine. The cinematography by Karthik Muthukumar is in tandem with the show’s theme. The production values are too good. Shows like MY3 need sharp editing, but that is missing here. Telugu dubbing is good.

Coming to the director, Rajesh, he did an okay job with the series. The impact of MY3 would have been multifold had his screenplay been gripping and fast-paced. There are a few good emotional scenes, and the humor is decent, but the lengthy runtime plays a spoilsport.

Verdict:

On the whole, MY3 is a passable comedy-drama that has good performances from Hansika, Mugen Rao, and Shanthnu. The show’s idea is interesting, but it is needlessly prolonged for nine episodes. In order to enjoy the series, one must sit through the lengthy runtime. A few subplots didn’t work. Had the director worked more on the screenplay, the overall impact would have been several notches higher.
