Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma, has been churning out films one after the other. His latest offering is Ice Cream 2. Starring JD Chakravarthy, Nandu and Naveena this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
Story:-
A group of close friends decide to make a short film, and go to a haunted forest to shoot it. As soon as they land there, weird things start happening around them. When they try to escape from the scene, they get kidnapped by Sikka(JD Chakravarthy) and his gang of bank robbers.
Twist in the tale occurs when the entire group starts getting killed one after the other. What is happening in the forest ? Who is killing everyone ? Does any one survives these attacks ? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points:-
For starters, Ice Cream 2 is a much better film than Ice Cream. At least there is some story and a bit of suspense showcased in this film. Locations are quite good and have been exploited well. J D Chakravarthy is decent in the role of Sikka and brings in few laughs with his unique mannerisms. He has a weird makeup and is the only interesting factor in the film.
Nandu and Dhanraj do their roles pretty well. Naveena provides the necessary eye candy. Second half is a bit OK when compared to the first, as most the thrills happen during this time.
Minus Points:-
As in every RGV film, suspense element kicks off quite well but bogs down after a while. RGV has only concentrated on one factor which is killing everyone in the film. He simply showcases everyone getting killed without even revealing the motive after a point.
First half has absolutely nothing to offer as RGV uses some cheap gimmicks by adding vulgar songs only to increase the run time. As in every film of his, there is a hurried up climax here too. Rather than showcasing a proper end to the film, a simple voice over justifies the ending which is ridiculous.
Technical Aspects:-
The flow cam technology which was used in Ice Cream was far more superior than the one showcased here. There are not many dialogues and the run time is decent. Once again, RGV comes up with genuine an idea but goes over board in his execution. Even with this film, he rushes up things and makes it for an unclear ending. Screenplay of the film is below par and many characters do not have proper justification.
Verdict:-
One the whole, Ice Cream 2 is definitely a better film than Ice Cream. But hold on, that does not mean RGV has a winner. He repeats the same mistakes of stretching the film too much and ending it abruptly. This film would have been a perfect fit as a short film, but sadly it ends up as yet another bullet misfired from the armor of RGV.
