Kannada star Kichcha Sudeep’s latest action drama, Max, hit the screens today in Telugu, two days after its original release. Check out the review to see how it fares.
Story:
Arjun Mahakshay, also known as Max (Kichcha Sudeep), is a fearless CI with an unmatched track record, ready to return to duty as his suspension ends in a few hours. Before his return, he arrests the minister’s sons for their involvement in a crime. However, the situation takes a deadly turn when they are found dead in custody. Chaos erupts as the minister’s men, gangsters, and criminals storm the police station, demanding their release. Trapped with a timid team of officers, Max devises a bold plan to turn the tide. What was his plan? Who was responsible for the deaths? Did Max succeed in reclaiming control? These questions form the core of this high-stakes thriller.
Plus Points:
After more than two years, Kichcha Sudeep makes his much-awaited return in a solo mass action film with Max. The movie delivers exactly what his fans crave—an intense, power-packed performance from Sudeep. He perfectly balances subtlety and strength, making it an engaging watch.
Varalaxmi Sarathkumar portrays a corrupt police officer and nails her role, while Sunil as Gani Bhai fits well into his character. Ilavarasu and the supporting cast contribute effectively to the overall experience.
Apart from the intense action blocks, Ajaneesh Loknath’s background score is a major highlight. His music adds depth to the action sequences and keeps the energy high, complementing the film’s fast pace throughout.
Minus Points:
The storyline is fairly simple and familiar, mainly set over 12 hours in a police station. While this isn’t a major flaw, it does feel like territory we’ve seen before in other films.
The first half is fast-paced, keeping the audience engaged. However, the second half slows down a bit, losing some of the momentum. While the screenplay maintains the flow, a more consistent pace in the latter part of the film would have been preferable.
Some supporting police officers’ performances are exaggerated, especially when conveying fear. This overacting occasionally takes the film away from realism.
Certain scenes stretch logic, which is common in mass films, but they can be easily overlooked as part of the genre. The climax is predictable, and a more surprising ending could have elevated the film’s impact.
Technical Aspects:
Vijay Karthikeyan delivers a solid mass action drama, keeping the screenplay tight and the story moving. The cinematography, music, production values, and editing all come together to create a watchable, entertaining action flick, though it doesn’t push any boundaries.
Verdict:
On the whole, Max is a decent action drama with a solid performance from Kichcha Sudeep. The film offers a good dose of mass action, but the simple storyline, occasional overacting, and predictable moments hold it back from being exceptional. It’s a watchable film, ideal for fans of mass action movies who are looking for a straightforward, enjoyable movie experience.
