What’s It About?
The series is about an American born Indian girl named Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan). She lives with her mother Nalini Vishwakumar (Poorna Jagannathan) and cousin Kamala (Richa Moorjani) after her father passes away. After her dad’s death, Devi gets paralyzed for eight months and when she is back, Devi is determined to become popular and get a boyfriend. She teams up with her two best friends Eleanor (Ramona Young) and Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez) to make sure her plan works. Devi also has a huge crush on Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) and wants to sleep with him, while she also deals with her long term rival Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison). In the midst of all her plans, Devi comes to know about a secret her mother has been keeping from her. The rest of the story deals with how Devi deals with her mother’s secret, and how she comes to terms with her identity.
What’s Good?
Mindy Kaling, an Indian herself, makes sure that the series speaks not only to American born Indian girls but also to so many different young girls all over the world. Her writing, along with co-creator Lang Fisher, is on point and extraordinary. The humor in the series only makes it all the more adorable and hard-hitting.
There is a wide variety of representation in Never Have I Ever, with people belonging to so many communities coming together all at once. Even with such a huge diversity, everyone perfectly blends into the story.
Right from the leading character of Devi to her friends and family, everyone is so perfect in their roles that it feels so authentic and natural. The performances of all the actors make you want to be more and more invested in the story, rooting for all of them.

There’s not much that’s actually bad, with everything falling into place seamlessly and effortlessly. This web series is mostly for the younger generation.
