Telugu comedy drama Maruthi Nagar Subramanyam, starring Rao Ramesh, has just hit theaters with a fair amount of buzz. Check out our review to see how it holds up.
Story:
Subramanyam (Rao Ramesh) dreams of getting a government job, but as days go by without any work, his wife, Kala Rani (Indraja), takes on the responsibility of managing the household. Their son, Arjun (Ankith Koyya), is also jobless and carefree. One day, Rs. 10 lakh unexpectedly appears in Subramanyam’s bank account, like a miracle. Unable to resist, he spends most of it, not realising that this sudden windfall will soon turn his life upside down. Whose money is it? Has he unknowingly stepped into something dangerous? The answers unfold in this suspenseful story.
Plus Points:
Rao Ramesh, known for his versatile roles, takes the lead in this film and brilliantly portrays a middle-class man grappling with financial struggles. His performance resonates with the audience, especially the middle class people. Joining him is Ankith Koyya, who plays his son. After a decent performance in Aay, Ankith wins hearts again with his comic timing.
Ramya Pasupuleti delivers a decent performance and looks charming on screen, especially in her scenes with Ankith Koyya, which bring a smile to the audience’s faces. Indraja, as the responsible housewife who holds the family together, gives a commendable performance. Supporting actors like Ajay, Praveen, and Harshvardhan are also fine in their roles.
Minus Points:
The story is simple, but the narration leaves room for improvement. The first half, though humorous at times, tends to drag, while the second half is just okay, with the pre-climax and climax lifting the film’s mood.
It’s surprising that the director missed the opportunity to fully explore the emotional depth with an actor like Rao Ramesh on board. With a stronger emotional quotient, the movie could have been more impactful.
Ramya Pasupuleti is fine in her role, but the character could have been given more depth to truly entertain. Hopefully, she’ll find roles with more substantial character arcs in the future.
Some of the comedy scenes feel outdated and could have benefitted from better writing, though they still work for certain audiences.
Technical Aspects:
Lakshman Karya makes a fine debut as a writer and director, though there’s room for improvement in narration, which will likely come with experience in future projects.
Technically, the movie is solid. The production values are adequate, MN Balreddy’s cinematography is visually appealing, and Kalyan Nayak’s score is effective. Bonthala Nageswara Reddy’s editing is fine, though the first half could have been tighter.
Verdict:
On the whole, Maruthi Nagar Subramanyam is a comedy drama with its fair share of fun moments. Rao Ramesh shines in his role, and Ankith Koyya adds to the humour. However, the movie stumbles in parts due to issues with the screenplay, and some scenes could have been better executed. If you enjoy light-hearted comedies, this family-friendly film is worth a watch.
