Disney Plus Hotstar has now come up with season 2 of the Jhansi web series. Having actress Anjali in the lead role, the show is currently available on the OTT platform. Let’s find out how it is.
Story:
Part two starts exactly from where part one ended. Jhansi alias Mahitha (Anjali), who is an amnesia patient learns about her past from Ameesha (Nithu), who is part of Billu’s (Suresh Chakravarthy) gang. Jhansi learns why her best friend Baarbie (Chandini Chowdary) became part of human trafficker Caleb’s (Raj Arjun) team. What is the reason for the enmity between Caleb and Jhansi? What made Baarbie join hands with Caleb? Did Jhansi seek revenge on Caleb? The show has all the answers.
Plus Points:
Anjali, as Jhansi once again, was brilliant in her role. While Anjali impressed with her stunts in season one, the actress was remarkable with the emotional part here in the second installment. The flashback episode that comes during the first episode had good moments, and Anjali’s performance enhanced the impact in a few portions.
Chandini Chowdary gets a good role, and the actress aced it with utmost perfection. Her character was well-written and had depth. The conflict point between Anjali and Chandini’s characters is neatly portrayed. Season two is kept short, unlike the first season, and this becomes one key advantage.
The stunt sequences are well-choreographed, making them good to watch. At times the screenplay was engaging and had good interesting moments too. The human trafficking element, though presented in a simple manner, is a relevant point that was discussed in the show. Other artists like Abeeram Varma, Raj Arjun, and Rameshwari Talluri were pretty good in their respective roles.
Minus Points:
Having too many subplots restricted the overall range of the show. There are subplots for most of the characters, some of which don’t really have any significance to the main plot. These subplots keep coming intermittently, spoiling the flow. The way they are placed in between important sequences is sure to irritate the viewers.
The good moments don’t last long, and whenever the show turns out to be interesting, the makers come up with some unwanted sequences. Moreover, the very idea of creating two seasons doesn’t make much sense. Instead, the makers should have made it into one series with gripping narration rather than coming up with two seasons.
The even more surprising thing here is that the story doesn’t conclude in season two, and we are again in for another season. The climax again is pale, and the hook point that is needed at the end lacks punch. After a point in time, when all the flashback episodes end, the routine revenge factor comes into the picture, and it is not handled well.
Technical Aspects:
The music by Sricharan Pakala is decent, and he composed the ‘song of love’ in a fine manner. The cinematography by Arvi is neat. Anthony’s editing is good in this season. The production values are fair, and the locations chosen are nice.
Coming to director Thiru, he did a below-par job with the series. The writing by Ganesh Kaarthic is no different. Jhansi series surely would have reached a higher level if the writing had been water-tight without many unwanted flashback portions. The show also gives the feeling that it is dragged for another season without a strong cliffhanger. The premise about human trafficking is interesting, but a good screenplay around the core concept would have done wonders.
Verdict:
On the whole, Jhansi season two clicks in a few parts. Anjali is the soul of the series, and she is ably supported by other artists. There are a few exciting moments, but the lack of an engaging narrative throughout makes the second installment strictly an okay watch this weekend.
