Based on true incidents that took place in a village named Odela, a film titled Odela Railway Station premiered on Aha directly. The film stars Hebah Patel, Sai Ronak, Pujitha Ponnada, and Vashsita M Simha in the key roles. Let’s find out how the film is.

Story:

After completion of his IPS, Anudeep (Sai Ronak) lands in a village called Odela for his police training. Odela is a place where not even a single robbery has occurred so far. But in a turnaround of events, a streak of rapes and murders happens hereby creating fear across the village. All the victims are newlywed women who would have just completed their first nights. This case becomes a headache for the police department. Who is the killer? Why is he after married women in the village? Did the police catch the psychopath? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

The film is set well in a rural heartland and this brings naturality to the proceedings. Hebah Patel, Sai Ronak, and Vashista M Simha were decent in their limited roles. Other artists who appear for a very brief period are okay in their respective roles.

The length of the film is very short and this becomes a major advantage for the viewing. There are a couple of scenes that are gruesomely canned and this adds a rustic feel to the film. The opening titular song explaining the reason behind naming the village Odela sounds good.

Minus Points:

The film is touted to be a crime thriller based on real incidents. But the plot point resembles a famous superhit film in this same genre. To make matters worse, a big clue regarding the main killer is revealed in the first 20 minutes itself making the film highly predictable.

The investigation angle from the police department is really clueless. Even after getting the voice of the killer, it becomes difficult for the police to catch the killer in a village that hardly has six thousand people. There aren’t proper scenes that hold the film together and hence we don’t connect to the film emotionally.

The characters are poorly written and just don’t have a proper flow and scenes are cut in between as well. The writing team failed big time in coming up with a fictionalized version of the true incidents making the film completely bland. The climax is a misfire and the main motto of the killer is also not convincing.

Technical Aspects:

Music by Anup Rubens is below-par and doesn’t add any tense factor. The cinematography by Soundar Rajan is too good. He has captured the natural village locations fairly well. The editing by Thammiraj is fast-paced and it becomes an advantage for the film.

The production values are good. Coming to writers Sampath Nandhi and team, they failed big time in coming up with a proper crime thriller. Director Ashok Teja also did a below-par job with his execution. More care should have been taken to the story and screenplay.

Verdict:

On the whole, Odela Railway Station is a badly made crime thriller. Except for a couple of scenes and the lead cast performances, there is nothing exciting about this film. The writing team has done a miserable job with the script that completely lacks any depth and disappoints if you expect a gripping thriller.
