It’s been a while since a Telugu comedy series was released on OTT. Save The Tigers, starring Priyadarshi, Abhinav Gomatam and Krishna Chaitanya in the lead roles, hit the streaming platform Disney Plus Hotstar today. Let’s see how the series is.
Story:
Ghanta Ravi (Priyadarshi), a dairy farm owner, Rahul (Abhinav Gomatam), an aspiring writer, and Vikram (Krishna Chaitanya), a creative ad writer, meet by accident and become friends. The common point between them is that they are all frustrated with their wives’ behaviours. The three frustrated married men get arrested in a Drunk and Drive case. In the meantime, the police come to know that a noted actress has been kidnapped. Do the trio have any connection with her disappearance? What made these men drink? Is it because of their wives? Why did the trio self-proclaim themselves as Tigers? The series will answer all these questions.
Plus Points:
The 6-episode comedy series is all about three frustrated men and their relationships with their wives. Priyadarshi-Sujatha, Pavani Gangireddy-Abhinav Gomatam and Krishna Chaitanya-Deviyani lived up to their respective roles. Abhinav Gomatam deserves praise for generating comedy throughout the series. Priyadarshi as a milk vendor and Krishna Chaitnya as an ad writer did impressive jobs.
Pavani Gangireddy as an understanding wife who supports her husband and Deviyani as a feminist performed well. Jordar Sujatha also justified her role as a woman who irritates her husband for a better place to live. Jabardasth fame Rohini gets a neat role, where she got a huge scope to generate comedy as a maid. Her scenes with Abhinav are a laugh riot.
The first three episodes are filled with funny moments, giving viewers the feeling of “Is the episode over already?” The remaining three episodes are filled with moments between husbands and wives. Some of them are emotional and thought-provoking, while others are fun to watch. The good part is that the director narrated them in a soft tone, as he didn’t intend to make the show serious. The show creators, Mahi V Raghav and Pradeep Advaitham, deserve appreciation for bringing this series that can be watched by the entire family.
The comedy scenes and their execution are a big boon to the series. Director Teja Kakumanu succeeded in narrating the fun-filled series without creating any boredom.
The bar scene, where Krishna Chaitanya vents out his anger on married women and their behaviours, and a few fun moments between the couples will surely connect with the majority of husbands in the real world. Couples will enjoy the show for sure.
Minus Points:
The quote “Where drama begins, the logic ends!” is perfectly apt for this series. If one tries to find logic, it’s quite hard to enjoy a movie, and that’s why the filmmakers coined the term, Cinematic Liberty.
Save The Tigers series has no great story, but it entertains throughout thanks to the comedy scenes it is filled with.
After five good episodes, one would expect a better final episode. Unfortunately, the last episode was a bit of a disappointment. It could have been written better.
It is a bit surprising to see three unknown and different individuals connected and become good friends in no time, as if they knew each other for ages. They meet regularly and even team up for a fight. As mentioned above, the director takes cinematic liberty.
Characters played by Gangavva, Venu Yeldandi, Yadhav, and others should have been written better and given more screen space.
Technical Aspects:
Director Teja Kakumanu’s narration is impressive. He ran the show well from start to finish. Pradeep Advaitham, Vijay Namoju, and S Anand Karthik wrote comedy scenes pretty well. They don’t create boredom anywhere, thanks to their adequate writing.
Cinematography by Vishweshar and the music by Ajay Arasada are good, and they helped Save The Tigers big time. The editing is fine. Production values are excellent, and the makers took all the care to make the fun series look quite rich.
Verdict:
On the whole, Save The Tigers is a hilarious series that can be enjoyed throughout. Priyadarshi, Abhinav Gomatam, and Krishna Chaitanya’s performances and their comedy are quite enjoyable. Except for a few flaws and a simple story, you can watch the series with your family this weekend.
