Madhuri Dixit has made her OTT debut with the show The Fame Game. The show is now streaming on Netflix and let’s see how it is.
Story
Anamika Anand(Madhuri Dixit) is a popular actress in Bollywood but is sadly fading away due to the competition from the younger lot. While returning from a high profile awards function, Anamika goes missing. A lady cop, ACP Shobha Trivedi (Rajshri Deshpande) is given the responsibility. As the investigation starts, so many crazy aspects of Anamika’s past come out. What are they and will the cops find Anamika. That forms the story.
Plus Points
If not for Madhuri, this show would have been quite disappointing. Madhuri is seen in a serious avatar and looks gorgeous even at this age. She plays a role which she has experienced in her film career. The way she expresses the feelings of an actress fading out is shown well by Madhuri.
Sanjay Kapoor is getting some really good roles and is very good. His support of the show is key and the actor shines through. Manav Kaul is good and so was Rajshri Deshpande who plays the cop. The series has eight episodes and the initial two episodes create a good impact.
Minus Points
The series goes back and forth in time. Each character has a backstory which is nothing new for the audience. Also, the length of these backstories is quite long and eats up most of the time and derails the show.
The emotions are not that strong. Whenever Madhuri is on screen things look quite good. But when she is not the drama lacks pace and diverts the attention of the audience.
Technical Aspects
The show is directed by Bejoy Nambiar and Karishma Kohli and the manner in which they set up the story is quite interesting. They have also derived Madhuri’s role quite well. But too many flashbacks spoil the fun. The camera work, BGM, and dialogues are quite effective. Production values are top notch.
Verdict
On the whole, The Fame Game is a show which has a relatable premise. Madhuri makes a stunning OTT debut and carries the show on her shoulders. But the excessive length, too many subplots and dull ending spoil the mood. Watch this show only for Madhuri Dixit and nothing else.
