Malayalam movie Premalu, directed by Girish A.D., has become the talk of the town. The rom-com stars Naslen K. Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju in crucial roles. Let’s see how the film is.

Story:

Sachin (Naslen K. Gafoor), an engineering graduate and a timid youngster, loves a girl in his college but fails to express his feelings for her. After graduation, he plans to go to the U.K., but his VISA application gets rejected. Sachin doesn’t want to stay in his hometown and hence asks his friend Amal Davis (Sangeeth Prathap) to help him out. Amal Davis, who plans to pursue GATE coaching in Hyderabad, takes Sachin along with him. In a marriage, Sachin sees Reenu (Mamitha Baiju) and falls for her instantly. The rest of the film showcases the journey of the lead characters.

Plus Points:

It is very difficult to handle movies like Premalu, which have a simple storyline, but Girish A.D. passes the job with flying colors. Premalu carries a jolly, breezy, and heartwarming vibe throughout its runtime. Girish A.D. hits the right chords in devising healthy and situational humor. There are numerous sequences in the movie that will make us laugh our hearts out. The best part is that the love story doesn’t get overshadowed by the fun moments. The director seamlessly blends the romantic and humorous portions, making Premalu a highly enjoyable watch.

The lead pair Naslen Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju are very endearing in their roles. Naslen looks like the boy next door and is very natural in his portrayal of Sachin. There is innocence, wittiness, and charm in Sachin’s character, and the young actor did an incredible job of bringing those qualities onto the screen. Mamitha Baiju is as captivating as Reenu. Her role is well-designed, and the actress’s lively performance makes one fall in love with her character.

Reenu has a set of desired qualities that she wishes to see in her life partner, yet she slowly falls for Sachin, who is quite the opposite. This part has been handled sensibly with neat drama and heartwarming moments. Sangeeth Prathap played Amal Davis, and he is that one friend whom we will all have in our lives. This makes his character more relatable.

Aadhi, played by Shyam Mohan, also loves the female lead, which places him and Sachin at loggerheads. They both try to woo and impress the heroine, and their scenes will tickle the funny bones. The climax episode is again hilarious.

Besides these actors, Hyderabad City plays a pivotal role in this delightful rom-com. The set-up of a Malayalam movie in Hyderabad adds freshness to the narrative. The film explores the beautiful city to a great extent, which makes even Telugu folks connect to it easily.

Minus Points:

There are not many complaints regarding Premalu. The initial few minutes showcasing the parents and hometown of the protagonist could have been handled in a better manner. During these portions, the movie is a bit slow.

If someone expects a great story, they might get slightly disappointed, as Premalu is all about providing an amusing experience with a familiar plot line. The first half could have been more crisp, though.

Technical Aspects:

The music by Vishnu Vijay and the cinematography by Ajmal Sambu will enrich the pleasant feel that Premalu carries. The production values are too good, and kudos to the makers for depicting Hyderabad in an incredible manner and for making it an integral part of the story.

Director Girish A.D. is assisted by Kiran Josey in writing, and the duo did a very good job integrating fun and love portions. The majority of the humor is situational and lands pretty well. The direction by Girish A.D. is top class, and especially the second half is handled exceptionally without any dull moments. Premalu is one of the most pleasing rom-coms to have come in recent times.

Verdict:

On the whole, Premalu is an impressive rom-com entertainer with plenty of amusing moments. Naslen K. Gafoor, Mamitha Baiju, Sangeeth Prathap, and Shyam Mohan are adorable in their roles. Premalu’s strengths are its humorous sequences, relatable moments, simple characters, and cute love story. Not just the Malayali audience, there are high chances for the Telugu audience to get connected to Premalu as it explores the bustling city of Hyderabad in a great manner. If you ignore the thin storyline and a few slow portions, this film is very much enjoyable. Recommended.
