Plus Points:
Along with light-hearted love elements, Premistava also has strong emotions that captivate the audience. The interval sequence is quite good. Arjun’s romance track and the other characters associated with Arjun’s character, especially Diya’s character, are impressive. The basic premise and some romance scenes click well.
Lead actor Akash Murali maintained his looks and physique well according to his character’s demands. He also impresses with his realistic performance. Heroine Aditi Shankar does a good job and ends up being the main attraction of Premistava with her appearance and performance. Sarathkumar and Khushboo Sundar played key roles, and they’re impressive as usual. The romance episodes written by Vishnuvardhan with an element of crime are good. He deftly handled a few complex scenes.
Minus Points:
Despite penning an intriguing premise,’ Vishuvardhan falters in writing an engaging narrative at some crucial places. He shows his mark by adding a touch of crime to a love story. and also directs some key scenes pretty well. However, a more effective and engaging narrative would have helped the movie a great deal. While the story attempts to bring seriousness during the heroine in prison sequences, it doesn’t translate into an engaging experience overall.
Although Vishnuvardhan’s direction and the lead actors’ performances make the film watchable, the lack of novelty in the story and the slow narration are the major drawbacks. Adding to this, the story sidetracks with unnecessary scenes and pretty ordinary scenes, especially in the second half.
Technical Aspects:
Although the movie features a strong emotional drama, the story does not move with an interesting plot. The songs composed by star music director Yuvan Shankar Raja are good. The cinematographer Eric Bryson showcases the locations impressively through his eye. Acclaimed editor Sreekar Prasad’s editing is quite good as usual. The production values are pretty decent. Finally, director Vishnuvardhan scores some brownie points with his work.
Verdict:
‘Premistava’ is an emotional love story that works in bits and pieces, thanks to some strong emotions in the story and well-shot love scenes. However, the movie falters majorly due to slow narration at crucial places. Adding to the woes, certain love scenes between the lead pair feel routine and ordinary, becoming a major drawback. On the whole, the movie ends up being an underwhelming watch.
