Raj Tharun is testing his luck with the latest comedy entertainer Raju Gadu which has hit the big screens today. Let’s see whether the movie lives up to the hype around it.

Story:

Raju(Raj Tharun) is a kleptomaniac( a person who steals things unintentionally) who struggles to keep his medical condition in check. One fine day, he comes across Thanvi(Amyra Dastur) and falls in love with her instantly. Even Tanvi accepts his love but with a condition that Raju has to impress her grandfather(Nagineedu) if he wants to marry her.

Raju sets on his path to impress Tanvi’s grandfather but in the process gets in all sorts of a mess created by Anji(Rao Ramesh). Rest of the story is as to how Raju sets things right and comes over his weakness at the end.

Plus points:

Raj Tharun is apt for this role and he comes up with an impressive performance. His ease of acting and the ability to keep things simple have come in handy for the young actor. He has shown signs of improvement in emotional department and that is a major plus for the movie.

Amyra Dastur looks decent and comes up with an okay performance. Comedy actor Prudhvi has been offered a meaty role and his struggles as a doctor who runs after complex medical conditions offer some much-needed entertainment. There is decent comedy in the first half as a few scenes that showcase hero’s kleptomania problem have come out well.

The likes of Nagineedu and Rao Ramesh have come up with mature performances and their characters have great importance in the story. The rivalry episodes between the seasoned actors have been executed well.

Minus points:

The forceful comedy that comes during the climax slows down the movie completely. The director, Sanjana Reddy tried to pump in unnecessary comedy sequences during this time that they neither entertain nor have any prominence in the story.

The pre-climax part looks a bit immature as illogical scenes take center stage and destroy the flow of the movie. Way too many subplots confuse the audience as new characters make their entry and no one has a clue why they have been introduced.

Technical aspects:

The camera department did a fine job as the movie looks colorful and the village atmosphere has been captured well. A montage song that comes in the second half looks really rich and this credit goes to the men behind the camera. Two songs in the movie are decent but no real care has been taken towards the re-recording. The non-sync BGM is an example of the same.

Sanjana Reddy complicated a simple story by bringing in a terrorist episode. However, she did a fine job in the comedy department as a few scenes in the movie offer nice entertainment. She should have stuck true to the storyline instead of messing up things with complex subplots.

Verdict:

On the whole, Raju Gadu has some fun moments here and there. A well executed first half sets the right tempo for the latter part but out of the blue subplots play the spoiler part here. If all you want is to watch is a comedy flick and do not mind a few glitches here and there, you can give this movie a shot. But clearly keep your expectations low.
