Director : V.V. Vinayak
Producer : D .V. V Danayya
Music Director : Thaman
Starring : Ram Charan, Kajal Agarwal, Amala Paul

Mega Power Star Ram Charan’s Naayak is the first movie to enter the Sankranthi race. Charan scored a good hit with Racha and he is now testing his fortune with this movie. This film has Kajal and Amala Paul as heroines. Danayya DVV is the producer and the film has released today.

Story :

Cherry (Charan) works in his uncle Jilebi (Brahmanandam)’s software company. Because of Jilebi’s foolish actions, Cherry crosses the path of local Don Babji (Rahul Dev) and falls for his sister Madhu (Kajal) in the process.

Meanwhile, serial killings take place in Kolkata and police forces hunt for a mysterious killer. This search brings them to Hyderabad, where the killer assassinates the DGP. Cherry gets implicated in these killings and he must now prove that he is innocent.

How Cherry does and how that mysterious killer is apprehended forms the story of Naayak.

Plus Points :

Charan has performed very well in the flashback episodes. His comedy timing and voice modulation improved in this movie. In the ‘Laila O Laila’ and ‘Subhaleka Rasukunna’ numbers, his dances are very impressive.

Brahmanandam is very funny in the role of Jilebi. The scene where Jayaprakash Reddy forces him to hog food has come out well. Jayaprakash Reddy’s one liners were funny. Posani Krishna Murali’s chocolate comedy came out well. Pradeep Rawat and Kota did well.

First half is decent but the film’s pace really picks up after the ‘Subhalekha’ song in the second half. The song ‘Subhalekha Rasukunna’ has been shot very well.

Comedy and entertainment aspects will work well at the Box Office and fast narration is a big plus.

Minus Points :

Akula Siva has liberally borrowed key points from many hit Telugu films of the past 10 years for this movie’s story. The Simhadri flashback episode in Kerala has been used with minor modifications in this movie.

Kajal and Amala Paul have nothing to do in this movie. They are used only for songs and some romantic scenes .

Yevvaramantey Elure song could have been shot well. Picturization of ‘Hey Naayak’ song could have been better.

Technical Aspects :

Chota K Naidu’s cinematography got better as the film progressed. Akula Siva’s dialogues worked well, especially for funny scenes. Editing is jerky in the first half but it is good in the second half. Thaman’s background score is just ok.

Fights in flashback episode are good but there is too much wire work in the rest of the fights. Vinayak’s direction is ok.

Verdict :

Naayak is an out and out mass entertainer. The film’s plot is a liberal mixture of many popular films but fast narration and good comedy keep the interest alive. Jayaprakash Reddy, Posani Krishna Murali and Brahmanandam scenes are a big asset for the movie. Due to the ample commercial elements in the movie, it will work well at the Box Office.
