Handsome hero Ajmal, had become quite popular after the success of Rangam and Raccha. He is now back with the political entertainer in Prabhanjanam. Directed by Bhaskara Rao, this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
Story:-
The story is based on the lives of three friends, Chaitanya(Ajmal) Sandhya(Aarushi) and Pranita(Panchi Bora). All these three are close family friends, and are busy preparing for their future jobs.
Out of them, Chaitanya is the only one who does not have any clarity on life, and has no plans as to what field to choose. One fine day, one of their classmates fails in the IIM entrance, and commits suicide.
This incident turns their lives upside down, and all the friends become more sincere in life. While all this is going on, Chaitanya decides to enter politics on behalf of his dads party, and becomes the youth leader.
Once he joins his party, his life changes completely, as he gets disturbed by the way politics is being run in the state. He then decides to take things in his hand, and plans to educate the general public about the right to vote, and how to choose a proper government.
Rest of the story is as to how he manages to fight through all this and come out victorious.
Plus Points:-
Major plus point of this film are its lead cast. Senior actors like Kota, Nasser, Chalapathi Rao and Naga Babu have done extremely well in the film.
Ajmal suits his character well, and the director has used his physiche and body language aptly in this film. Arushi impresses in the role of hero’s friend.
Supporting character like Chandu and Panchi Bora have done their bit well. Story line of the film is pretty good.
Minus Points:-
As said above, other than the lead star cast and story line , rest of the film has huge drawbacks. Even after choosing a decent story line, the director failed to execute it completely.
This story had potential of heavy dialogues, and many scenes which could have been elevated. But the director failed to capitalize on this and only concentrated on the commercial aspects of the film.
Nasser’s character lacks clarity and his speeches in the film have no depth. Ajmal’s character in the second half becomes a bit weak and also does not have any powerful dialogues or scenes.
The entire film has been dragged to the core. Major scenes of the film show how political parties campaign and promote their parties these days.
The way Ajmal’s party operates, and wins the election and all the scenes of him educating the voters are shown without any clarity.Logic goes missing in the second half and the script has many loop holes.
Technical Aspects:-
Camera work in the film is a big plus. The movie has a good feel, and has been shot beautifully. R P Patnaik’s background score is also yet another big plus for the film. Even though the scenes in the second half are lack lustre, R P’s music elevates them to a decent level.
Dialogues are out of the box, and have absolutely no connection to the story and editing is pretty bad. As said earlier, the story line is quite decent but the way it has been executed by the director is mediocre.
Verdict:-
On the whole Prabhanjanam is a misfit even in hot and happening times of elections. A good story line, has been wasted by some poor execution and unnecessary commercial elements. Even though your are interesting in political thrillers, you can safely ignore this flick this weekend.
