Genelia and Riteish will be seen together onscreen for the first time after their marriage, in the film ‘Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya’. Naturally, there are many expectations over this flick and the movie released today. Om Puri, Tinu Anand and Smita Jaykar are the other stars in this film which has been directed by Mandep Kumar. Tips Industries and UTV Pictures produced this flick jointly. Let us see how the movie stacks up.

Story :

Mini (Genelia) is a Canadian citizen and a spirited girl who believes in living life on her terms. Her father Bhati (Tinu Anand) is a rich and greedy landlord from Punjab and Viren ( Riteish) is an auto driver who works for him. Bhati decides to get Mini married to a dumb and greedy guy, Sunny, and she is totally against the marriage. In order to find a way out of this unfavourable situation, Mini hatches a plan along with Viren and gets herself kidnapped. Just as Mini and Viren start to feel happy about the successful turn of events, the story takes a twist and they are kidnapped by a notorious gangster Chaudhary (Om Puri), this time for real. During all this drama, Viren and Mini start developing a mutual affection for each other. As the story unfolds, it turns out that Chaudhary is not after money and has other intentions behind the kidnap. What are they? Will Mini and Viren end up together? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points :

In this movie, Genelia sticks to what she does best – play a bubbly, mischievous and free spirited girl. This role is a cakewalk for her and her performance is good. Riteish is alright in the role of Viren. When the lead pair is at ease with each other, sparks fly and this what happens in this movie. The superb chemistry shared by Genelia and Riteish is so easy to make out and this is one of the highlights of the film.

There are a few genuinely good humorous scenes in the movie, especially after the scene shifts to the village. Om Puri and Tinu Anand do a fine job in their allotted roles.Veena Malik is just about ok in the item song. Narration is fast paced and the film has a breezy feel to it. Interval twist is good and saves the film from becoming a damp squib.

Minus Points :

There are many hackneyed sequences and the characters are heavily stereotyped. Logic and screenplay went for a toss in the interests of comedy and while that would have worked in most cases, some of the extremely predictable and cliched scenes will not make you laugh and the errors become glaringly obvious.

Emotional quotient goes a little overboard towards the climax and the film actually becomes irritating in these instances. There is much to be desired about the placement of songs as well. A crisper climax and a tighter screenplay would have worked wonders for the film.

Technical Aspects :

Background music and songs are just about ok. Cinematography is patchy and lighting is bad in a few scenes. Editing is ok. Dialogues are good and some of them are very witty.

The director succeeds in capturing the beautiful chemistry between Genelia and Riteish but sadly, he lets go of screenplay in the second half.

Verdict :

Good performances from Genelia and Riteish and some beautiful chemistry between the two is perhaps the biggest asset for this movie. There is some genuinely good humour in the film but it is let down by poor screenplay and excessively emotional climax. This film would have been a good watch with a little more care from the makers. For me, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya falls just short of the mark.
