Ajith is back with his new film Valimai which has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

A notorious bike gang creates havoc in the city of Vizag through their drug business. The gang is headed by Saithan. (Karthikeya). The cops have a hard time nabbing him and bring a top cop Arjun (Ajith) to deal with the case. But as time passes by, Arjun’s brother also gets involved in the crime. How does Arjun nab the criminal and saves his brother is the whole story of the film.

Plus Points:

Valimai boasts of some crazy action sequences which have never been seen before in south Indian cinema. In this aspect, the fans and general audience will love the action blocks as they are adreline pumping.

Ajith is known for his bike riding skills and he gets a full chance to display it. His fans will love the bike stunts as they are multiple whistle blowing moments. The camera work needs a special mention as it is outstanding. The chase scenes are shown in the best way possible.

Huma Qureshi is decent in her supporting role. Last but not the least, Telugu hero Karthikeya has done a decent job as the baddie. He does not get nervous in front of a star like Ajith and plays his role perfectly.

Minus Points:

Apart from the crazy action sequences, the film is filled with boring family drama. The so called mother sentiment bores you to no extent. The film is filled with such boring scenes throughout.

The story of the film is simple and has not many twists. The film could have been wrapped up in plain two hours but sadly, director Vinoth drags the story.

Things take a lot of time to enter the main story as the villian is introduced quite late. In some scenes the dull screenplay side tracks the plot. When the action blocks come, the film looks good but once they are done, boredom creeps up.

Technical Aspects:

Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the BGM which is quite good. The production values of the film are just amazing. The production design, bike stunts give the film an international appeal in several scenes. Editing is pathetic as half an hour could have been easily chopped off.

Coming to the director H Vinoth, he has made some crazy films like Khaki in the past. But the drama and grip is missing with his direction in Valimai. Had he kept the unnecessary drama out of the picture, the film would have been quite good.

Verdict:

On the whole, Valimai is a half baked action thriller which has some best stunts for a South flim. But it is also filled with boring drama. All those who like Ajith and action thrillers can give this film a shot. But be prepared for the slow pace and lag in narration.
