John Abraham’s latest action drama has hit theaters today, releasing in both Telugu and Hindi. Dive into our review to see how this film measures up.

Story:

Major Abhimanyu Kanwar (John Abraham), a former Indian soldier, returns to Barmer, Rajasthan, where he becomes an assistant boxing coach. The town is controlled by a cruel Sarpanch, Jitendar Pratap Singh (Abhishek Banerjee), who enforces strict caste rules and oppresses the lower-caste community. Vedaa Berwa (Sharvari) is a determined woman who wants to learn boxing, despite the challenges she faces due to her caste. When a tragedy strikes her family, Abhimanyu helps her escape as they are pursued by the Sarpanch’s men, who are determined to kill them. As the story unfolds, the reasons for the Sarpanch’s pursuit and Abhimanyu’s choice to protect Vedaa are revealed.

Plus Points:

John Abraham brings authenticity to his role as a principled soldier standing up against a corrupt system. His commanding presence adds gravitas to the character. Sharvari delivers an impressive performance, skillfully balancing vulnerability with inner strength.

Abhishek Banerjee shines as the menacing Sarpanch, offering a chilling and memorable portrayal. The action sequences are well-executed, and the unconventional music effectively complements the film’s tone.

Minus Points:

Despite its basis in real-life issues, the film struggles with a predictable plot and sluggish pacing. The screenplay lacks the necessary tension, leading to moments of disengagement.

While the action scenes have their highlights, they are often marred by subpar VFX and illogical elements. The emotional depth is lacking, making it difficult for the audience to connect deeply with the characters.

Moreover, seasoned actors like Ashish Vidyarthi are underutilized. Although the Telugu dubbing is adequate, the songs fail to leave a lasting impact. The climax, which had the potential to elevate the film, falls short, resulting in a disappointing conclusion.

Technical Aspects:

Director Nikkhil Advani’s effort is commendable but hampered by a weak script from Aseem Arora. Malay Prakash’s cinematography is effective, but Maahir Zaveri’s editing could have been more precise. The music is decent, but overall production values remain average.

Verdict:

On the whole, the action drama Vedaa presents a promising concept but disappoints due to a weak script and sluggish pacing. Despite strong performances from John Abraham, Sharvari, and Abhishek Banerjee, the film struggles to maintain engagement. You better skip this film in favour of a more captivating option for your weekend entertainment.
