Kollywood star Chiyaan Vikram’s latest rural action drama, Veera Soora Dheera Part 2, was finally released in cinemas today amid high drama, after the morning and noon shows got cancelled due to financial issues. The SU Arun Kumar directorial also features SJ Suryah, Sooraj Venjaramoodu, and Dushara Vijayan in lead roles. Check out our review to find out how the film fared.

Story:

Kaali (Chiyaan Vikram) runs a small grocery store in a village and leads a simple life with his wife, Vani (Dhushara Vijayan). One day, an old acquaintance, Ravi (Prithviraj), who had previously worked with Kaali, seeks his help. Ravi wants Kaali to save his son Kanna (Sooraj Venjaramoodu) from SP Arungiri (SJ Suryah). What is the equation between Kaali and Ravi? Why does the SP Arungiri want to kill Ravi’s son? Will Kaali fulfill Ravi’s request? Watch the movie on the big screen to know the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

Even a small plot point can make the entire movie engaging in action revenge dramas like Veera Soora Dheera. This movie also has such an interesting point. Vikram as Kaali has effortlessly delivered a nuanced performance, showcasing an impeccable range of emotions.

Right from the beginning of the film, director SU Arun Kumar’s effort to make the narrative engaging is quite evident. The way he drew the audience into the story is very impressive. The narration of the story is decent.

The rustic and gritty action sequences and the hero elevation scenes are well-composed and will surely impress the audience. GV Prakash Kumar’s background score is good as expected, and the cinematography suits the milieu well.

Minus Points:

The core point that keeps the audience hooked should be strong when choosing an action-oriented story like Veera Soora Dheera. However, this film falls short in that aspect. The story feels dragged due to its wafer-thin storyline. Despite having powerful elements for the hero’s character, they are hidden for too long. Dushara’s performance as the hero’s wife may not appeal to everyone.

The film’s story has enough scope for intense action. However, the screenplay unfolds as a routine action drama and ends up being a major minus for the film. Adding to this, the snail-paced narrative tests the audience’s patience. In the second half, just when the story begins to engage, a particular sequence derails the film.

SJ Suryah’s character was underutilized in the movie. Also, Prithviraj’s negative character could have had more scope had it been played by another senior actor. Other actors also didn’t contribute much to the film.

Technical Aspects:

Director SU Arun Kumar chose a routine storyline, and the film could have been more engaging. He should have focused more on the screenplay to create intensity in the story. Although the songs composed by GV Prakash Kumar didn’t leave a significant impact, the background score worked well. Cinematography by Theni Eshwar was decent, but the editing should have been much better. The production values are good.

Verdict:

Veera Dheera Soora Part 2 ends up being a below-average action drama. While the story had potential, the execution could have been better to make a strong impact. The lead actors manage to engage the audience, but the slow-paced narration acts as a major challenge. Those who love intense action dramas should watch Veera Soora Dheera with their expectations in check, while others may look for other alternative options for their weekend entertainment.
