So, continuing the series of reviewing movies and shows, our today’s pick is AKvsAk, the latest Hindi film on Netflix. Let’s now see how it is.
Story :
Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap play themselves in this unique film that is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. In one Bollywood panel discussion, a small argument between Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap goes out of hand. Upset with it, Anurag splashes water on Anil Kapoor’s face leaves from there. Later, he returns back to Anil Kapoor and says that he had kidnapped his daughter Sonam Kapoor and Anil has only 10 hours to find her. Anurag also tells that Anil cannot go to the cops and his search will be recorded live and will be released like a film. What will Anil Kapoor do now? and how will he find his daughter in such a crazy situation forms the story?
What’s good :
The story idea is itself unique and is a first of a kind for Indian films. The villain, threatening a star on camera and asking him to search for his daughter and all to be recorded live, this aspect has been showcased superbly. Because of this angle, the film becomes quite interesting and unique. Anil Kapoor is solid as a desperate father trying to save his child. He is in a tense and fast forward mode through the film and is amazing in his role.
Anurag Kashyap is no less and is riveting as the nagging director who is abusing Kapoor and his entire family with real-life incidents looks good. The camera work needs a special mention as it covers the movements of the key characters. You get a feeling of watching things live. The production values and camera work needed a lot of homework and visuals need a special mention. The situations are realistic and the manner in which Anil Kapoor is put through a lot is amazing.
What’s Bad :
Throughout the film, the only idea you get is how the hell this film will be ended. Where is Anil Kapoor’s daughter and is Anurag playing a prank on the star. But something else is showcased and gels well with the ending. But this could have been showcased in a more engaging manner. Some more scenes should have been added to make this aspect look effective. There is a lot of camera movement and this aspect can irritate a few. Also, the logic in a few scenes is missing.
Verdict :
On the whole, AK vs AK is a very unique film that is narrated on a different note. The crazy characters of Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashya, chases and confrontations look good. Barring the end twist which should have been justified well, the simple runtime and crazy narration make this film an interesting watch.
