Be Happy is the latest Hindi film starring Abhishek Bachchan and Inayat Verma in the lead roles. Directed by choreographer Remo D’Souza, the movie premiered today directly on Amazon Prime Video. Read on to find out how it fares.

Story:

Shiv Rastogi (Abhishek Bachchan) is a bank employee and a single father raising his daughter, Dhara (Inayat Verma), who is deeply passionate about dance. However, being a protective parent, he hesitates to support her dream. After witnessing the overwhelming appreciation she receives for a dance performance, he has a change of heart. Dhara aspires to train under renowned dance teacher Maggie (Nora Fatehi), prompting the father-daughter duo to relocate to Mumbai. She auditions for India’s Superstar Dancer, impresses the judges, and advances through the competition. Just when everything seems to be going well, an unexpected setback forces her out of the show. What went wrong? Will the determined Dhara return to the stage? Does Shiv push her to reclaim her moment? The answers unfold in the film.

Plus Points:

Inayat Verma steals the spotlight with her outstanding performance as Dhara. Her expressions and dance moves are mesmerising, making her the film’s driving force. Her emotional interactions with Abhishek Bachchan are well-executed.

Abhishek Bachchan delivers a solid performance, portraying a reserved yet deeply caring father. His emotional depth comes through in key moments, particularly in the climax and a dance sequence with Inayat.

Nassar, despite limited screen time, brings warmth and liveliness to his role as the grandfather. Nora Fatehi looks stunning and delivers a graceful performance.

Minus Points:

The biggest drawback of Be Happy is its sluggish pacing. While the story is predictable, it has a few unexpected moments, but the slow narration tests patience at times.

The emotional depth between Abhishek and Inayat is evident but could have been explored further to leave a stronger impact. Johnny Lever’s role feels unnecessary and adds little value to the film.

Remo D’Souza and his writing team could have crafted a more engaging screenplay to make Be Happy a truly compelling watch.

Technical Aspects:

Remo D’Souza presents a heartfelt father-daughter story with dance at its core. However, the lack of an engaging screenplay weakens the film’s impact. Vijay Kumar Arora’s cinematography and Harsh Upadhyay’s music are serviceable. Editor Sherwin Bernard could have tightened the film by trimming unnecessary scenes for a better flow. The production values are decent, and the Telugu dubbing is adequate.

Verdict:

On the whole, Be Happy is a slow yet watchable dance drama driven by the heartfelt performances of Inayat Verma and Abhishek Bachchan. Some dance sequences, especially in the climax and key moments, are well-executed. However, the film’s sluggish pace and predictable narrative hinder its appeal. If you love dance or share a strong bond with your girl child, you might find the film relatable. Others can give it a try but should keep expectations in check.
