Chandini Chowdary

Directed by: Praveen Varma

DOP: Divakar Mani

Music: Sunny M.R.

Editor: S R Shekar

Producers: Sudheer Varma

Aha’s latest film, Super Over has been creating a decent buzz among its subscribers. Being directed by Praveen Varma, the film is scheduled for a premiere on January 22nd but it was premiered last night for the media. Let’s see how it goes.

Story:

Being childhood friends, Kaasi, Vaasu, and Madhu (portrayed by Naveen Chandra, Rakendu Mouli, and Chandini Chowdary respectively) lead a happy go easy life. One fine day, upset with his financial problems, Madhu gets tilted towards cricket betting. By the end of the cricket premier league season, he wins a massive amount and his friends Vaasu and Madhu become a part of it. The real story starts here as they get into big trouble through a bookie. What kind of struggles do they face to get back their money? forms the story.

Plus Points:

Naveen Chandra, Chandini Chowdary, and Rakendu Mouli perfectly fit in their given roles. The chemistry between the three friends looks so natural. The way all the cricket betting scenes and bookie set up has been presented in an authentic manner looks realistic.

The way the main story has been narrated in one single night is good and has enough crime and thrilling elements in it. The entire night episodes are executed with a gripping screenplay added with good twists and turns. Actor Ajay as a tough cop gave a decent performance. All the cat and mouse scenes between Ajay and friends are nice.

The chasing episode canned in the night has come out quite well and looks gripping on screen. Actor Praveen and viva Harsha are okay in their short but prominent roles.

Minus:

One of the scenes between Ajay and the friends’ group looks good on screen but they are far away from reality and look a bit stretched. The film has a very thin storyline based on cricket booking and has no commercial elements like songs and fights which may not go well with a section of the viewers.

After watching the film, we instantly get a feeling that the film has been ended by not answering a few questions like how cops left the friends so easily without further investigation on the crime.

Technical Aspects:

As mentioned above, the film has no songs but the background score is apt and suits the film’s mood. The suspense elements in the movie are nicely elevated with the re-recording. Editing work is fine as the film’s runtime is kept short without any unwanted scenes. Cinematography is okay as the night mood has been captured well by using appropriate frames.

Before mentioning director Praveen Varma, the sad news is that during the last leg of the film’s shooting he passed away in a major road accident. We offer our sincere condolences to talented technician Praveen Varma’s family.

Coming to his work, though Praveen Varma’s storyline is very thin, he managed to write a gripping screenplay based on the cricket booking concept. His style of execution is neat and has clarity in it. Super Over is originally bankrolled by noted director Sudheer Varma and his production values for the film are good.

Verdict:

On the whole, Super Over is a crime thriller that is decent with its narration part. Though the film has a few unconvincing episodes and foul language at regular intervals, considering the OTT release, the film ends up as a watchable fare for its thrills and stylized execution.

Bombhaat Telugu Movie Review

Release Date : December 3rd,2020

123telugu.com Rating : 2/5

Starring : Sai Sushanth Reddy, Simran Choudhary, Chandini Chowdary

Directed by : Raghavendra Varma

Producer : Vishwas Hannurkar

Music Director : Josh B

Continuing the trend of reviewing shows and films on OTT, today, a Telugu film called Bombhaat has hit the small screens. The film is available on Amazon Prime and let’s see how it is.

Story:

Vicky(Sushanth Reddy) is a guy who is always unlucky in life. He is friends with a scientist who suddenly goes missing and leaves his daughter Maya(Simran Chowdary) with him. The twist is the tale arises when Vicky comes to know that Maya is none other than a humanoid robot. This is also a time when yet another scientist(Makrand Deshpande) goes after Maya. Who is this Maya? Who created her? What is the whole science fiction angle in this film? To know the answers, you need to watch the film.

Plus Points:

Chandni Chowdary is good in her role but does not have much to do in the film. The main lead, Sushanth Reddy is also okay but he looked a bit stiff in some crucial scenes because his character is designed like that. Makrand Deshpande does not have much to do but is ok in his scenes. Shishir Sharma is good in his key role and gets most of the screen time.

The music of the film is pretty good and all the songs are nicely placed. The main highlight of the film is Simran Chowdary. She gets a crucial role and is the best part in the film. She gets a neat screen space and the young actress holds the audience well with her looks.

Minus Points:

There is absolutely no seriousness in the film as some key characters are out of sync and ham to another level. The screenplay goes for a toss as the scenes do not make any impression whatsoever right from the word go. One even wonders how Amazon Prime even bought this film.

The scientific angle is also dull and looks way too silly. There is no connection between scenes and the characters have no clarity in what they are doing. The hero’s role is made way too silly with all the bad luck factor which is not justified at all. Priyadarshi’s track has no meaning at all.

The last ten minutes where the hero creates some scientific devices to deal with the bad guys will suffocate you to another level. There is not one scene where the emotions click in the film and make things wayward and over the top for the audience.

Technical Aspects:

Production values of the film are pretty decent as the camera work is good. The dialogues are decent and so was the VFX and production design. Lyrics of the songs are quite good and so were the thrills.

Coming to the director Raghavendra Varma, his story idea itself is weird and is not right on paper. The film has traces of Robot but has not been narrated well. The director’s inexperience is shown in many scenes as the emotions, characterizations, and logic go for a toss. He tried to give roles of many characters a twist but fails miserably.

Verdict:

On the whole, Bhombhaat is a scientific drama that fails to explode whatsoever. Except for the music and some action thrills of Simran Chowdary, the weird story, execution, and emotions do not click making this film an over-the-top and silly watch this weekend.

Colour Photo Telugu Movie Review

Release date : October 23,2020

123telugu.com Rating : 2.75/5

Starring : Suhas, Chandini Chowdary, Sunil, Viva Harsha

Director : Sandeep Raj

Producers : Sai Rajesh Neelam, Benny Muppaneni

Music : Kaala Bhairava

Cinematography : Venkat R Shakamuri

Editor : Kodati Pavan Kalyan

So, continuing the series of reviewing movies and shows during the lockdown period, our today’s pick is the latest Telugu film Color Photo. Starring Suhas and Chandni Chowdary, this film is available on AHA, and let’s see how it is.

Story :

Jayakrishna(Suhas) is a dark-skinned guy who falls head over heels on Deepu(Chandni Chowdary) but keeps his feelings to himself. As time passes by, a gang in his college beats him up and this issue brings Deepu closer to him. Slowly the friendship turns into love and this does not go well with Deepu’s brother Rama Raju(Sunil). The rest of the story is as to how the couple reunites after facing several problems.

Plus Points

Suhas turns into a full-fledged hero with this film and does an amazing job. We all know that he is a talented actor but in Color Photo, Suhas showcases his complete range. Be it his voice, expressions, and down to earth screen space, the young actor lives his character superbly. Suhas is a supremely talented actor and is the one to watch out for in the coming years.

Chandni Chowdary too does a superb job. This film gives her a lot of scope to perform and Chandni laps up the opportunity in a big way. The way she emoted throughout the film and especially in the climax shows the acting prowess of the young actress. Sunil tries a different modulation in his negative role and is decent.

Viva Harsha gets a very good role and shocks you completely with his performance. Sri Vidya, who played Sunil’s wife also does quite well. One of the biggest plus points of the film is undoubtedly Kaala Bhairava, the music director. His songs are superb and have a haunting effect on you. His BGM is also impressive.

Minus Points

The film is a simple love story and is based on serious conflict like discrimination of color and rich and poor. The director Sandeep handles this well but by the time the film reaches the pre-climax, things get way too serious and emotional which was not needed at all. The film has decent scenes but a few of them have been dragged for no reason especially in the first half.

The reason for which the heroine falls for the hero is not that strong and some more convincing scenes could have made things better for the audience. The love track could have also been better. The latter part of the first half is slow and takes time to get to the breakpoint which makes the film dull.

Technical Aspects

As said earlier, the music is the biggest highlight of the film. The editing is decent and so was the art direction. The camerawork is superb and showcases the bygone era in a beautiful manner. The art direction, costumes, and especially the dialogues need a special mention. The production values by Sai Rajesh are top-notch.

Coming to the director Sandeep Raj, he makes a decent debut. One can say that he has a decent grip on emotions and handles this part well until the pre-climax. He also handled the basic essence of the love story well initially but could not hold on to it later. If he could have added more grip in the drama and edited out some scenes before the interval and pre-climax, things would have been good.

Verdict

On the whole, Color Photo is a romantic drama that has some amazing performances by Suhas and Chandni Chowdary. Solid music and decent emotions are basic plus points. But an overdramatic climax, routine story, and slightly dull love story take the film down here and there. Barring this, if you lower the expectations and watch this film, you might end up liking it.
