Sundeep Kishan and Ritu Varma’s comedy entertainer, Mazaka, was released in cinemas worldwide today amid a decent buzz, thanks to the aggressive promotions by the makers. Check out our review to know how this Maha Shivratri festive treat fares.

Story:

Krishna (Sundeep Kishan) and his father Venkata Ramana (Rao Ramesh) lead a simple life in Visakhapatnam. Krishna has trouble finding a bride due to the non-presence of women in their family. As a result, all the marriage proposals keep getting rejected. This prompts Venkata Ramana to decide to get married first and then find a bride for his son. As the story progresses, Krishna meets Meera (Ritu Varma), and Venkata Ramana meets Yashoda (Anshu Sagar). How their lives change and why Meera and Yashoda need to meet to make their marriages happen form the crux of the story. Adding to this, business tycoon Bhargav Varma (Murali Sharma) places a condition on Krishna and Venkata Ramana, which adds to the intrigue. You’ll have to watch the movie to know how the rest of the story unfolds.

Plus Points:

Director Trinadha Rao Nakkina is known for extracting decent entertainment regardless of the storyline in all his films. Mazaka is no different. The comedy in the first half is quite enjoyable, and the chemistry between Sundeep Kishan and Rao Ramesh provides enough entertainment. The comedy scenes between these two actors will entertain family audiences. The narrative is loaded with fun, starting from the very first scene, making the first half engaging.

A few comedy episodes are hilarious, while some twists and emotions work well. The performances of the four lead actors are the major highlight of Mazaka. Sundeep Kishan impresses with his charming looks and comic timing, while Rao Ramesh stands out as usual, especially in his role as a father who transforms into a lover boy to find a bride for himself and his son. His chemistry with Anshu Sagar also adds a touch of fun.

The gorgeous Ritu Varma shares a decent chemistry with Sundeep Kishan. Their romantic track, especially in a folk song, is quite enjoyable. After a long time, Manmadhudu fame Anshu Sagar is seen in a decent role, and she performs quite well, especially in the comedy scenes involving Rao Ramesh. Murali Sharma, who plays Bhargav Varma, also comes up with a solid performance. Hyper Aadi and Srinivas Reddy add to the fun quotient with their comedic timing and keep the audience laughing. A few comedy sequences in the movie bring out the humor well.

Minus Points:

Despite having a good first half, the movie falls short in the second half on the entertainment front. The second half doesn’t live up to the expectations set by the first half. The second half is largely boring, with several scenes failing to click or feeling forced. Some comedy scenes seem overstretched and fail to bring out laughs.

The scenes featuring Rao Ramesh and Anshu Sagar become a bit too over-the-top and might not gel well with some viewers. There are also moments where it feels like we’ve seen certain scenes before, making the second half feel repetitive.

Adding to the woes, Anshu Sagar’s role appears unnatural at times, and her Telugu dubbing feels out of sync with her dialogue delivery.

Technical Aspects:

The production values are good. Leon James’ music is okay, but the background scores in certain scenes could have been better. Nizar Shafi’s cinematography is decent, but Chota K Prasad’s editing could have been sharper, especially in the second half, where certain boring scenes could have been trimmed. Prasanna Kumar Bezawada’s dialogues are fun and work well in the comedy scenes. The screenplay is decent.

Director Trinadha Rao Nakkina has a good reputation in Tollywood, but in Mazaka, he misses the mark in delivering a full-fledged entertaining narrative. The second half could have been better. Except for Rao Ramesh, the lead actors could have delivered better performances. Anshu Sagar’s dialogues in Telugu do not feel natural.

Verdict:

Mazaka offers some fun moments, particularly in the comedy scenes between the four lead actors. However, after a promising first half, the second half drags on and doesn’t maintain the entertainment quotient. The film provides a decent treat for those looking for a light-hearted entertainer. However, the film could have been much better with a more consistent narrative.
