Story:
Dasharatha Ramam (Samuthirakani), an honest officer at the Registrar’s Office, immensely loves his son Raghava (Dhanraj) and wants to see his son succeed in life. However, Raghava lacks focus on studies and wastes his time without a proper job. Raghava borrows money from his father to start a business but loses it all in betting. This creates a huge conflict between Ramam and Raghava, and the son plans to kill his father with the help of a truck driver. What prompts Raghava to take such a drastic step? Will the truck driver kill Ramam? You need to watch the movie on the big screen to know what unfolds next.
Plus Points:
Telugu movie lovers have seen numerous movies based on the father-son bond. Ramam Raghavam falls in this category. The film beautifully portrays the struggles of a concerned father due to his son’s behavior. Samuthirakani comes up with a remarkable performance in a role that perfectly suits him. Dhanraj, too, impresses as the irresponsible son.
The emotions in Ramam Raghavam will strike a chord with the audience. The father-son scenes are easy to relate to. The scenes that showcase Raghavam’s plans to kill his father are executed in a gripping manner. The twist in the second half will keep the audience engaged. The emotional scenes, particularly in the pre-climax and climax, will move the audience to tears. Dhanraj makes a good attempt at directing an emotional story that is so relatable.
Minus Points:
The movie takes its own sweet time to get into the core of the story. The first half feels routine and might leave the audience bored. The scenes that showcase Raghava’s failure to fulfill his father’s dreams in the beginning leave a lot to be desired. The first half feels lengthy, and director Dhanraj should have focused on the first half’s screenplay.
Dhanraj’s love track doesn’t click and lacks appeal. Surprisingly, even Sathya’s comedy doesn’t evoke laughter. Prithvi is okay in certain scenes. His character lacks depth, and it could have been developed better.
Additionally, the songs don’t add much value to the movie. Even the background score fails to create the desired impact. Even though the climax is emotional, the way it is executed could have been more engaging.
Technical Crew:
Dhanraj has done a decent job as a director on his debut, portraying the father-son bond in a slightly different way from other films. Durga Prasad Kolli’s realistic cinematography is commendable. While the songs composed by Arun Chiluveru don’t stand out, his background score does the job well. The production values are decent.
Verdict:
Ramam Raghavam is an emotional drama that engages the audience to an extent. Dhanraj’s attempt to portray the father-son bond in a novel manner is praiseworthy. However, the lack of interesting elements in the first half and the slow pace at several places test the audience’s patience.
