Yesterday, four new movies made it to theaters across the twin Telugu states. While Allari Naresh’s Aa Okkati Adakku, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s Sabari, and Suhas’ Prasanna Vadanam were straight Telugu movies, Tamannaah-Raashi Khanna’s Baak, the Telugu-dubbed version of the Tamil horror drama, Aaranmanai 4, was the only prominent other language movie that was released in the Telugu states.
However, all the four new releases have failed to set the cash registers ringing and disappointed movie lovers and trade circles alike. While Aa Okkati Adakku registered average openings due to Naresh’s popularity and the iconic title factor, Prasanna Vadanam, Baak and Sabari couldn’t attract the masses to theaters, and their box office prospects look bleak. Lack of strong content and poor pre-release promotions are the main reasons behind this lackluster performance of all the new releases.
The extreme temperatures in both the Telugu states, the IPL, and the general election euphoria seem to have adversely impacted the box office collection of the new releases. Needless to say, the makers of several big and medium-budget movies made a wise decision to not release their movies in May.
