While promoting his upcoming film Harom Hara, actor Sudheer Babu expressed his views about the growth of OTT platforms. According to Sudheer Babu, OTTs are currently a threat to the industry as they affect the theatrical business. However, Sudheer Babu feels that if good rules come into place, OTTs and theatres can co-exist.
Sudheer Babu said, “Producers are getting good deals from OTT platforms. So, they are releasing the movies on OTT within a short gap. A few movies are arriving in the digital space within two to three weeks. Our industry needs to extend the theatrical window.”
Sudheer Babu added, “What we all need to understand is this is a game. In the future, OTT platforms might dictate terms. If we think about the short-term gains, there won’t be theatrical releases in the future. The digital platform will give peanuts if we are not cautious. We need to make sure there is a healthy gap of 40 to 50 days between theatrical and OTT release.”
