Vaishnav Tej is all set to make his debut with the film Uppena that will be out this Friday. On this occasion, we spoke to him in a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.
Did you always want to be an actor?
Growing up, I wanted to do so many things like becoming an astronaut, joining the army, and taking up VFX. After my graduation, I had started losing weight and put up some pictures on the net. I started getting offers and that is the time, I got Uppena. My family consulted Chiranjeevi garu and he encouraged me completely and here I am.
What was Pawan Kalyan’s reaction to your debut?
He is happy that I chose films and has encouraged me a lot. Pawan Mavayya has even watched the trailer of Uppena and loved it. His wishes are always there with our team always and once he is free, we will show the film to him.
What aspect of the film attracted you the most?
I was not at all sure about my launch when the story came to me. I was quite doubtful and people around helped me so much. Things happened so organically as people like Chiranjeevi garu judged the story and gave a go-ahead.
What kind of preparation went in for your debut performance?
I took acting classes before I joined the industry. For my role, I had to work on the slang and the body language of a fisherman. We had workshops held for 40 days. More than the pre-production, I learned a lot on the sets. It was quite tough for me to adjust but slowly, I got into the groove.
About the delayed release of your film?
I never thought about the release of the film as things were quite tough for all of us. I had left all the tensions to the makers, Mythri, and was confident that they would handle all this in a perfect manner which they did superbly.
Working with Vijay Sethupathi?
He is a blessing in disguise for this film. He did not have dates but as he heard the story, sir came on board. He is a very sincere actor and I learned about acting from him. More than anything, I have become a fan of Vijay sir’s off-screen behavior. He never watches the monitor and is a director’s actor. The way he spoke to me and encouraged the team was so good to see.
About Chiranjeevi’s reaction after watching the film?
I was so curious to know what he would think of the film and my performance. The moment he watched the film, he said “Super Ga Chesyav Ra-Na Paruvu Nilabettyavu”. This was the best compliment for me in my life. I feel that if he liked the film, then the audience will surely love it.
What kind of films do you like?
I am a hardcore action movie lover. I love watching Mahesh, NTR, Prabhas and all the big action films of mega heroes. If I am successful, I would love to do such films when the time is right. Right now, I am still in a bubble and am surprised to see myself on screen.
About your association with NTR?
I cannot forget the way he has welcomed me into his life. I met NTR anna in Ram Charan’s home. Since then, he has loved me as his own brother. He always calls me and enquires about my shoot and future prospects. Manchu Manoj is another actor who is really close to me. The way he encourages me is something else altogether.
About director Buchi Babu Sana?
He is like a guru, friend, brother, and everything for me. He has showcased me in the best possible way. His story, narration, DSP’s music, and performances, everything came out so well and it was only because of Buchi garu.
About Krish’s film and future projects?
The film is completed along with its dubbing and the promos will start soon. I have also signed my third film and we will announce it soon. For now, my focus is on the film and how it will be received by the audience.
