Kriti Shetty is all set to make his debut with the film Uppena that will be out this Friday. On this occasion, we spoke to her in a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.
Your background?
I am from Mangalore but am born and brought up in Mumbai. My dad is a business ma and my mom is a fashion designer. I had an interest in acting but never thought of taking up movies as a career. I finished my graduation in psychology and did some ads. I got an offer from Buchi Babu garu and here I am with my debut film.
How did you prepare for your role?
I play the only daughter of Vijay Sethupathi in this film and am a pampered child. It is only because of my director Buchi Babu that I learned Telugu in ten days. Things were not easy on day one of the shoot as my intro scene had all kinds of issues. But I should thank the team for supporting me so much and helping me throughout.
What’s so special about Uppena?
The film is not an ordinary love story and has many hard-hitting moments. The twists and turns that the emotions take will shock the audience. Also, I guarantee that the audience will cry atleast once during the film.
Did you know about the big names involved with this film?
No, I was not aware of any names involved with this film. Only when I signed the film, I came to know about Tej and his background. I only knew Chiranjeevi garu but when things started rolling, I understood how big the project is and how popular names these are.
Working with Vaishnav Tej?
He is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. I cannot forget the manner in which he has stood by me throughout the film. He has done a superb job with his debut film and the audience will just love our chemistry.
Acting with the likes of Vijay Sethupathi?
The moment I came to know that Vijay Sethupathi is playing my dad, I was so tensed. Before starting the film, I came to know about the team and who all are working in the film. I must say Vijay sir is the most cutest person on the set. But once he switches on, he is another person. Sir helped me so much on the sets and never got irritated due to my retakes.
Best compliment you received after watching the film?
After a special show, Sukumar garu spoke to me at length about my performance. The manner in which Chiru garu praised me in the pre-release event is the best compliment for me to date.
Your fav actors in films?
I am a huge Sridevi fan and am loving the work that Samantha garu is doing here. I never watched south films but now that I am here, I am watching a lot of Tamil and Telugu films these days.
You have already signed three films. How is Tollywood treating you?
I started off as a model in Mumbai. There, there is not much respect for models and upcoming actors in Mumbai but that is not the case here. I was shocked to see the respect that I got here in Tollywood and am enjoying my stay and work in Telugu cinema.
