Naga Shaurya’s upcoming movie, Lakshya, is releasing on December 10 in theatres. On this occasion, we met Naga Shaurya for a brief interview. Here is the transcript.

How did you get the opportunity in Lakshya?

Producer Asian Suniel Narang garu called me up and asked me to listen to the story of Lakshya. The next day, director Santhossh Jagarlapudi came and narrated the story to me and explained every tiny detail about archery. It took me 2 days to listen to the complete story and I agreed to do the film immediately. Though I heard many sport-based stories earlier, Lakshya excited me so much and that’s why I agreed to do this movie.

What inspired you to transform your body?

After the success of Varudu Kavalenu, I wanted to introduce a new Naga Shaurya to the audience and for that, I have gone through many tough phases. Pulling 35 kgs backwards is not an easy task and I did it just for the movie.

Perception towards archery before and after the film?

Archery is nothing new to our Indians. We all knew about its presence in mythology and we have seen it in the hands of Alluri Seetha Rama Raju also. Ram Charan in RRR also holds the bow. Archery is the only sport in India that is being treated as education.

Tell us about Lakshya

Lakshya is my first sport-based film and it is the first of its kind in India. The story revolves around a guy called Pardhu. How he conquered himself and later the world is the story of Lakshya. Rajamouli’s Sye inspired us to make this movie and we are confident about the success of this romantic sports drama.

Experience with senior actors

This is my first movie wirth Sachin Khedekar garu and Jagapathi Babu garu. Sachin garu is a good actor and he always discusses the scenes with us. Jagapathi Babu garu is a versatile actor and helped me a lot. Ketika Sharma performed well in Lakshya. This film will become memorable for her just like Oohalu Gusagusalade for me.

Future projects

I am currently doing a film under Ira Creations banner. Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi with Srinivasa Avasarala is very close to me and it has me in 7 different variations. A film with Balakrishna garu is completely a rumour.
