Natural Star, Nani’s Shyam Singha Roy is all set to release on December 24. On this occasion, we met with the film’s music director, Mickey J Meyer for a brief interview. Here is the transcript.

Tell us about the film’s music

I felt very excited after Rahul Sankrityayan narrated the story of Shyam Singha Roy. The film has a huge scope for good music and I also felt the same in the case of the background score. I believe that the songs and BGM will gain more response after the film is released.

Any special care while composing music?

The movie offers you a new kind of flavor in terms of music as the story is related to two different periods, past and present. As the film is set in the backdrop of the 70s, I scored music with the instruments, like Tabla, Sitar, and Santoor, which were popular at that time. I also included Bengali music as the major part of the movie happens in Kolkata. Shyam Singha Roy is the first of its kind Telugu movie coming with this theme.

Working experience with Sirivennela garu

I felt lucky to have worked with the legendary lyricist Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry garu. Every moment I spent with him is a wonderful memory.

He penned two songs for this film. You are all enjoying the first song, Sirivennela. The second also offers the finest lyrics from the legend. I felt very challenging while composing the song.

How do you choose singers for a song?

During the selection of singers, I take suggestions from the hero and director. But, ultimately the final decision is mine because, while composing the tune, I imagine which singer will do justice to the song and finalize them.

Future projects

Currently, I am composing music for a movie that is coming in the combination of Nandini Reddy and Swapna Dutt. Also, I am roped in for Sriwass and Gopichand’s film and Dil Raju’s upcoming project. Besides, I am doing private albums in English and Spanish.
