Last Friday saw two major releases, Indian 2 and Sarfira. Indian 2, directed by Shankar, featured Kamal Haasan as the protagonist. On the other hand, Sarfira, headlined by Akshay Kumar, was directed by Sudha Kongara. Indian 2 is the sequel to the 1996 Tamil industry hit Indian, while Sarfira is the official remake of Soorarai Pottru. Both movies have put on an underwhelming show at the box office in their opening weekend.
Indian 2 received mixed to negative reviews, whereas Akshay Kumar’s film got solid critical acclaim. Sarfira collections are pathetic, given the fact that several big names are attached to the film. On the first Monday, Indian 2 and Sarfira crashed severely at the box office. The occupancies are dismal, to say the least, and many shows are getting canceled due to poor turnout.
Compared to other regions, Indian 2 performed decently at the Tamil Nadu box office in its first weekend, but the vigilante action drama dropped big today. As per early estimates Indian 2 raked in just 2 crores from Tamil Nadu today. The worldwide gross of India 2 will be below 150 crores in its lifetime.
The makers of Sarfira came up with a BOGO (Buy One Get One) offer and even promised to provide refreshments to the moviegoers. Despite these offers, the response for Sarfira remains terrible, and these two movies are now heading towards biggest disasters in the history of Indian cinema.
