Kollywood star Karthi’s much-awaited family entertainer, Meiyalagan, is all set to hit theaters on September 27. Also starring Arvind Swami in a key role, the film is directed by 96 fame Prem Kumar and has Telugu girl Sri Divya playing the female lead.
Meiyalagan is releasing in Telugu as Sathyam Sundaram on September 28. Karthi and the movie’s unit landed in Hyderabad yesterday for the pre-release event. Karthi interacted with the Telugu film media and shared several interesting tidbits about the movie.
“My brother Suriya hugged me after watching my debut film, Paruthiveeran. After so many years, Suriya Anna again hugged me after watching Sathyam Sundaram. He was very proud of my performance in the movie. Sathyam Sundaram is a heartwarming movie and has feel-good entertainment. This film is a complete family entertainer,” said the talented actor.
Speaking about his co-star Arvind Swami, Karthi said that both his and Arvind Swami’s characters in Sathyam Sundaram are very crucial. “Arvind Swami grew up in a village, and this film is a reflection of his life. He became quite emotional after reading the script. We shared a brotherly bond in the movie. One can’t imagine Sathyam Sundaram without Arvind Swami,” he added.
Karthi went on to reveal that, just like 96, the entire story of Sathyam Sundaram takes place in a single night. “Tears rolled down when I read Sathyam Sundaram’s script. The film beautifully depicts the unconditional love our family showers on us. This film is about our culture, our roots. It is very much like K Viswanath’s Sagara Sangamam and Oopiri. I played a happy-go-lucky villager in the movie,” he said.
Talking about the clash with Devara, Karthi said, “Sathyam Sundaram’s Tamil version is releasing on September 27, but the Telugu version releases on September 28 to avoid a clash with NTR’s Devara. “Devara is like a war movie, our Sathyam Sundaram is like Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu,” he quipped.
