Veteran Bollywood actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has been chosen for India’s highest cinematic honor, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made the announcement via X earlier today, commending Mithun Da’s remarkable journey that inspired generations.
Mithun Chakraborty will be presented with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8. “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. To be presented at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on Oct 8, 2024,” minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted on X.
Mithun Chakraborty debuted in Hindi Cinema with Mrigayaa in 1976. His glorious performance in the Mrinal Sen directorial won him the National Film Award for Best Actor. Mithun Da’s 1982 film, Disco Dancer, made him a dancing sensation in the country. Mithun Da was recently honored with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is presented annually by the Directorate of Film Festivals. Mithun Da will be the 54th recipient of the coveted honor, which was instituted in 1969 in honor of Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian Cinema.
