Christopher Nolan’s last outing, Oppenheimer, was a massive blockbuster with nearly 1 billion dollar collection at the box office. There have been many speculations about the director’s next for the past few days. Finally, the official announcement was made on Universal Pictures’ X account.
Accordingly, Nolan’s next is a mythic action titled “The Odyssey,” and the film will be shot across the world using brand-new IMAX film technology. Earlier reports claimed that the film would feature Tom Holland and Matt Damon, and the same has been confirmed now. In addition, The Odyssey also stars Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyongo’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron in crucial roles.
Nolan’s film is an official adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, Odyssey. It chronicles the story of the Greek hero Odysseus and his journey home following the victory in the Trojan War. The movie is said to explore themes such as heroism, loyalty, deceitfulness, and the struggle against divine will.
The poem was already adapted into the 1954 Italian film Ulysses. The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan’s second film for Universal and will open in cinemas on July 17, 2026.
