Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD is setting new records with advance bookings. The film has already grossed around 15 crores from Hyderabad city alone, which speaks volumes about the craze and excitement among the audience. The Hindi bookings are also super strong, and this Nag Ashwin’s directorial is expected to open in the range of Saaho (24 crores nett on day one) in the north belt.
Everything is looking good at the moment, but the T20 World Cup 2024 might pose a big threat for this sci-fi entertainer. The semi-final match is scheduled on 27th June between India and England, and as per IST, the game starts at 8 PM. The advances are no doubt phenomenal for Kalki 2898 AD, but the World Cup match might take a toll on occupancies for the night shows in mass centers.
Unlike the metro cities, these mass centers will predominantly have walk-in audiences, and hence, we need to factor in this World Cup match, too, before making the estimations for opening day numbers. It’s been so long since India won an ICC tournament, and all eyes are on this massive semi-final match that will decide the finalists.
If India manages to get the upper hand over England, then again, the third-day collections of the Prabhas starrer will take a beating as the final is scheduled on Saturday. Hence, it is important that this mega multistarrer gets positive feedback from the audience to minimize the loss caused by these big matches.
