Less-known Indian actress Anasuya Sengupta has made history at Cannes 2024 by becoming the first Indian actress to win an award at the prestigious festival.
She received the Best Actress award in the Un Certain Regard segment for her outstanding performance in The Shameless (2024), directed by Constantin Bojanov.
Anasuya, who resides in Goa and began her career as a Production Designer, was discovered in an unconventional way. Bojanov, a friend of hers on Facebook, invited her to audition for the role after seeing her potential. Her impressive portrayal of the character Renuka earned her this significant honour.
The entire team behind The Shameless is celebrating this remarkable achievement. Anasuya’s win not only highlights her talent but also marks a significant milestone for Indian actors on the international stage.
