Kalki 2898 AD, the much-awaited pan-India sci-fi thriller featuring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, hit theaters yesterday amid sky-high expectations. Not disappointing anyone, the Nag Ashwin directorial received an overwhelming response from the US shows and the early morning shows in India.

Kalki’s day 1 box office numbers have arrived, and the film has registered an all-time third-highest opening for a Telugu movie, standing next only to RRR and Salaar. Apart from the twin Telugu states, Kalki has performed quite well across the rest of India. While the film collected a whopping Rs 72 crore gross in the Andhra, Ceded, and Nizam regions, it went on to gross Rs 10 crore in Karnataka on its opening day.

In Tamil Nadu, where Prabhas has a huge fan base, Kalki collected Rs 6 crore gross, while another Rs 4 crore was collected in Kerala. Finally, the film’s Hindi version pocketed Rs 28 crores gross making it the biggest opener in India this year. It’s been earlier reported that Kalki created a new record in North America by collecting a sensational $5.51 million on day 1.
