Malayalam film Wonder Women stirs huge controversy on social media

Bangalore Days director Anjali Menon was in the news due to her comments on film criticism. She received severe backlash from netizens due to her remarks about film reviews. Now another controversy was stirred on social media regarding a scene from the movie.

The film’s plot is about pregnant women from different regions meeting at a prenatal center run by Nadiya. First, a lady hailing from North India tells Nadiya to teach in Hindi since she can’t understand English. Then, another character says that she can’t understand Hindi, to which the first lady says Hindi is the country’s national language.

In comes another lady who says Hindi and English are just official languages but not national languages in India. Finally, the North Indian lady says that she knows a bit of Madrasi, and the other woman clarifies that there are a lot of languages in south India and adds there isn’t any language called Madrasi.

This scene has gone viral on social media, creating a huge rift between North and South people. There is a lot of discussion on the internet regarding this scene, and people are saying that language discrimination is depicted in the film. Nonetheless, the movie received good limelight due to the controversy.
