Mega hero Varun Tej will soon be seen in the period action drama, Matka. The film is touted as the most expensive project in Varun’s career to date. Varun will be seen as a gambling kingpin named Vasu in this rags to riches story inspired by a real-life Matka don who ruled the underworld in Vizag in the 60s. The Karuna Kumar directorial is produced under the SRT Entertainments banner and is scheduled to open in cinemas on November 14.

Matka’s power-packed theatrical trailer was released at a special event in Hyderabad this afternoon. During the trailer launch, Varun and the movie’s unit interacted with the film media. Speaking at the event, Varun revealed several interesting tidbits about the movie.

“I always strived to attempt different stories and choose characters that offered me scope for performance. After Gaddalakonda Ganesh, I could find another interesting character with equal mettle in Matka’s Vasu. I okayed Matka even before my previous few movies released and failed to impress the audience. Vasu is an exciting character from Burma and takes refuge in Vizag in 1958. The film explores his rags-to-riches story,” said Varun.

Varun went on to say that his uncle Megastar Chiranjeevi watched Matka’s trailer around a week ago and was impressed with it. “His appreciation for Matka’s trailer doubled my confidence,” the Mega hero added. Varun also talked about his uncle Pawan Kalyan. “I was apprehensive about using Babai’s movie title for my movie (Tholi Prema). We felt that the title suited the story well,” he said, also clarifying that he is not acting in Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film, OG.
