The renowned Kollywood actor and leader of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party, Vijayakanth, succumbed to Covid-19 this morning at the age of 71.
Having sought treatment for health concerns at a private hospital in Chennai last month, Vijayakanth tested positive for COVID-19 and was subsequently admitted to MIOT International Hospital in Chennai a couple of days ago. He fought against the disease and has now found solace.
Commencing his journey in the film industry in 1979, Vijayakanth made his mark as a villain in Inikkum Ilamai. With a filmography of over 150 movies, he became a favorite among many. Notable films like Captain Prabhakaran, Sivappu Malli, Amman Kovil Kizhakale, and others earned him immense popularity.
Known for entertaining audiences with his action-packed and patriotic films, Vijayakanth transitioned into politics after bidding farewell to the film industry in 2015, aiming to serve the people.
