The GOAT

Kollywood star hero Thalapathy Vijay has a solid fan following in Kerala. The actor’s Leo is still the all-time top opener in this region (including Malayalam films) with Rs. 12 crores gross. Even though the hype was low for Vijay’s latest film, The GOAT, it still raked in nearly Rs. 6 crores gross in this territory. Thalapathy’s stardom in Kerala is no less than a Mollywood hero.

However, the long run of any film in Kerala purely depends on word of mouth, and this aspect didn’t work for The GOAT. The action drama directed by Venkat Prabhu received terrible reports right from the morning shows, and on day 2, the film dropped heavily. As per the early estimates, the biggie earned around Rs. 1.5 crores gross on its second day.

The rights were secured for a whopping Rs. 17 crores, and to reach the safe zone, this Vijay starrer should earn in the proximity of Rs. 40 crores gross (share terms are different in Kerala). Looking at the current trend, it would be great if The GOAT could cross Rs. 20 crores gross from Kerala, and distributors are staring at huge losses.
