Amazon Prime Video has yet again come up with a crazy web show named Farzi. Starring some of the immensely talented artists like Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, and Raashii Khanna in crucial roles, the show is currently available for streaming. So let’s see how it is.
Story:
Sandeep alias Sunny (Shahid Kapoor) is a small-time sketch artist. His grandfather runs a printing press for his revolutionary journal Kranti which is about to shut down due to huge debts. With no other option left, Sunny and his friend Firoz (Bhuvan Arora) start designing counterfeit currency. Mansoor Dalal (Kay Kay Menon), a kingpin in the world of counterfeiting, notices the mastery of Sunny and makes him a part of his business. On the other hand, Micheal (Vijay Sethupathi), a fiery task force officer, is hell-bent on eradicating fake currency in India. He deploys a separate team for the same, and Megha (Raashii Khan) is a part of it. Did Michael achieve his mission? How did Sunny’s life change due to this illegal business? Watch the show to know the answers.
Plus Points:
When a show or a film is made with a bunch of artists, it is tough to strike a balance between all the characters. But Raj & DK have succeeded in this aspect highly. Every character that appears in the show has got importance. Be it a henchman in Kay Kay Menon’s gang or the lady who wants to part ways with her boyfriend, citing his socioeconomic status, every character has got its own purpose and relevance.
Vijay Sethupathi is an ocean of talent, and the actor once again gives a spectacular performance in the show. He is very intense as the task force officer, and the impact couldn’t have been better if some other artist had played it. His comedy timing is sure to tickle your funny bones. Vijay Sethupathi’s scenes with the Central Minister entertain big time. His antics and mannerisms are blissful to watch.
Shahid Kapoor, as Sunny knocked it out of the park. Shahid is the soul of Farzi, around whom the entire plot revolves. Be it comedy, emotion, action, or romance, the actor gave it his all. Shahid looks terrific in the show, and he surely will get terrific applause for his acting. Moreover, the makers have touched upon a few social elements through Shahid’s character. Special mention to Bhuvan Arora, who played Shahid’s buddy.
Raashii Khanna plays a very crucial role, and she is stunning in it. She got more scope to perform, and the actress was apt in the role. Kay Kay Menon is good as the baddie. The cat-and-mouse game that runs between the cops and the gangsters will keep us hooked for the most part. They are well-written with logic.
The scene where Shahid and his gang break out into a paper factory for robbery is hilarious. Not just one, there are a lot of such delightful scenes. The action part is also nicely conceived with style.
Minus Points:
The series is very lengthy. Due to this excessive length, the impact at times will be lessened. At times the show slows down considerably, and the editing team could have shortened the length to enhance the viewing experience.
The mid-portions are slightly underwhelming, and they could have been designed even better. The language usage and the presence of more violence in places might be disturbing for a few.
Technical Aspects:
The background score by Ketan Sodha is great, and so is the case with Pankaj Kumar’s cinematography. The makers have spent a bomb on the series, and it is clearly visible in many frames. However, the editing, as stated earlier, is average. The Telugu dubbing is awesome.
Coming to the director duo Raj and DK, they have done a good job with Farzi. Their writing is tight, and the series has appealing content and a heavy dose of entertainment. The detailing was superbly done, and the way the performances are extracted is brilliant. There is a small surprise for ‘Family Man’ fans in the show, and it is sure to amaze them. But the length is something that needed more caution.
Verdict:
On the whole, Farzi is engaging. Splendid performances, good writing, stylish action scenes, and comedy are its advantages. Barring the length and slow pacing at times, the show is a good watch this weekend.
