Hero Rajasekhar has been going through a lean phase as some of his previous films have not clicked at the box office. His latest presentation is Gaddam Gang which has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Gaddam Das(Rajasekhar) is a small time crook who leads his life by kidnapping innocent people. One fine day, he comes across four desperate jobless youngsters and persuades them to form a group called Gaddam Gang.

This gang turns kidnapping into a full time job and makes merry with the money. Twist in the tale arises when one of their kidnapping assignments, involving the son of a honest politician(Naresh), goes horribly wrong. Rest of the story is about how the entire Gaddam Gang comes out of this deep mess which also involves a dangerous police officer(Yog Japee).

Plus Points:-

Story of the film is interesting and different from the regular commercial flicks in Tollywood. Rajasekhar is apt in his role and plays his character convincingly. The way he has stuck to the plot and has not tried to dominate with unnecessary heroism is impressive.

First half of the film is decent and has some interesting comedy episodes. Naresh is impressive as a honest politician, and Noel who played his son’s role is the most impressive of the younger lot. Satyam Rajesh gets a meaty role and is improving with every film. Some kidnapping scenes during the first half have been executed well. Naga Babu brings in the necessary laughs, and all the twists in the second half are ok.

Minus Points:-

Even though the story of the film is decent, the way it has been executed is below average. Since the movie is based on a group, the supporting cast should have been more familiar. Except for Satyam Rajesh, rest of the other newcomers are below average. Gaddam Gang suffers from heavy Tamil flavor and does not have the necessary effect.

Climax of the film is stretched out and takes forever to finish. After an interesting first half, the film gets serious and has no clarity in its proceedings. The inspector’s character is inappropriately wrapped up making up for an unclear ending.

A song breaks out of no where during the climax and spoils the flow of the film completely. Sheena Shahabadi’s part has not been etched out properly and her characterization is confusing.

Technical Aspects:-

Music of the film is a big let down as none of the songs are impressive. Background score of the film is pretty decent and so is the art direction. Dialogues are apt and those written for Rajasekhar are good.

Camera work is good and showcases the film in a decent light. Director Santosh has left many issues unanswered in the film. He fails to invoke the necessary emotions from his actors . Production values are good but the dubbing is below par.

Verdict:-

On the whole, Gaddam Gang is a film which is good only in bits and pieces. Except for Rajasekhar’s honest performance and an ok first half, this film is let down by improper narration and unfamiliar supporting cast. Watch it only if you have absolutely nothing else to do.
