Yet another low budget flick, Kiraak has hit the screens today. Starring newcomers Anirudh and Chandni in lead roles, this film is directed by the short film maker Haarrikh. Let’s now see how the film is.

Story:-

Rakesh(Anirudh) and Amrutha(Chandni) are hardcore Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu fans respectively. Both these youngsters, join the same college and also fall in love with each other during the course of time.

As time passes by, Rakesh buys a handy cam to direct a short film. Things take a drastic u-turn, and weird things start happening with him. What are those weird things ? How are Rakesh and Chandni connected to the handy cam ? How will they solve their problems ? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:-

The way the director has dealt with different superstitions, is the major plus of the film. Anirudh’s performance in the scary scenes is pretty good. Chandni looks beautiful, and gives in a superb performance in the romantic episodes.

The way the names of Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu have been used is also executed nicely. Vennela Kishore manages to bring in some decent laughs. Interval block, and some horror elements in the second half are also interesting.

Minus Points:-

Except for the message showcased, this film can be called a spoof of many films. Every scene in this movie is inspired from some film or the other. Even though the director has spoofed the story, he could not narrate it in an entertaining way. Posani’s comedy track also does not manage to evoke much laughter.

This film neither looks like a short or a feature film. I think the director got confused between the two, and went haywire. First half has nothing much to offer, as the story never shapes up here. Songs in the film come in as huge speed breakers. Some of the graphics used also do not look convincing.

Technical Aspects:-

Cinematographer has done a decent job, and the locations provided to him were shown beautifully. Even though the songs are good, they come in as speed breakers. Sai Karthik disappoints completely with his background score. The editor should have easily chopped off at least 20 minutes of the film.

Coming to debutante director Harrikh, even though he intended to say a good point, he failed in implementing it. He wrote a predictable screenplay, which lacked the necessary pace. Production values are below par, and could have been better.

Verdict:-

On the whole, Kiraak is a huge disappointment in many aspects. Lackluster screenplay, old story line and slow pace are some of the basic letdowns. Except for the decent performance of the lead pair, this film has nothing much to offer.
