Lucky Baskhar is one of the most-awaited films in recent times, as it has Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role. Directed by Venky Atluri, the film has Meenakshi Chaudhary as the female lead. The film has hit the screens today, and let’s see if it lives up to all the hype or not.

Story :

The film is set in late 1980s Mumbai. Bhaskar (Dulquer Salmaan) is a bank employee who is denied a promotion despite his dedication to the job. One day, a frustrated Baskhar robs money from his bank and invests in criminal activities. This brings him immense wealth, and Bhaskar becomes increasingly greedy. Eventually, he encounters Harsha Mehra, a Big Bull in the stock market, joins forces with his team, and amasses crores. This involvement leads him into serious trouble with the CBI and strains his relationship with his wife (Meenakshi Chaudhary). The rest of the story follows how Bhaskar attempts to clear his name in a vicious scam involving powerful individuals.

Plus Points :

Whenever Dulquer Salmaan comes up with a film, there is always something special about it. So, everyone wanted to see what Dulquer and director Venky Atluri were up to with Lucky Baskhar. One of the biggest assets of the film is the crisp writing by Venky Atluri. The film hardly puts a foot wrong as Venky Atluri narrates it with a lot of thrills, heroic moments, and solid emotions.

There is no melodrama, and the usage of the banking sector terminology and making it understandable to the common man through an impressive screenplay is the best part of the film. The first half showcases how Baskhar struggles for money and what makes him choose the wrong route. All this is showcased in a very organic manner.

The second half starts on a slow note, but the reference to Harshad Mehta and his scam in the stock market is so nicely incorporated in the storyline. Credit should go to Venky Atluri for making things easy for the audience to watch on screen.

Dulquer Salmaan is a genius actor and superbly plays the role of Baskhar. His look, body language, and the heroic moments he showcases in the film are just amazing. Dulquer does not go overboard and looks charming while he gambles with his work and earns big money. You travel through his character, and this makes things quite engaging.

Meenakshi Chaudhary is superb as Dulquer’s wife and looks stunning in the film. Sai Kumar, Sachin Khedekar, and others perform well in their supporting roles. The climax of the film is also well thought out, as the con committed by Dulquer is given a proper closure and makes up for an entertaining watch.

Minus Points :

Lucky Baskhar has the backdrop of the banking sector, and such subjects have been tried before in other languages. One can say that Lucky Baskhar is the filmy version of the various web series that have been made in the banking sector on Hindi OTT. The second half of the film is a bit slow, and one gets a feeling that the family drama should have been elevated more.

The character of Baskhar keeps earning big money, and his wife does not question him much. Though there are scenes that create issues in the family, one feels that the drama should have been elevated more. The pace in the second half is slow, but all this is covered with a good climax.

Technical Aspects:

Music by GV Prakash is superb, as all the songs have been superbly incorporated into the narrative. The BGM is solid, but what catches your attention is the production design. The entire film is shot in a set, be it the bank set, props used, or the period setup showcasing the city of Mumbai, everything is award-winning stuff. The screenplay is the best, as it holds your attention till the end. The editing is crisp, but a few scenes in the second half should have been chopped off to make things better.

Coming to the director, Venky Atluri has done a great job with Lucky Baskhar. Be it his writing or narration, everything is spot on. One of the biggest assets of the film is casting Dulquer in the lead role, as he suits the character perfectly. Venky does not bore the audience, and though he chooses a banking backdrop, share market, and Hawala scams, he narrates the film in a way that any common man can understand the narrative. His hold on emotions is very strong and makes Lucky Baskhar an engaging watch.

Verdict :

On the whole, Lucky Baskhar is an engaging film that has a very unique backdrop, good thrills, and an amazing performance by Dulquer Salmaan. The thrills showcased hold your attention, but the pace is a bit slow in the second half. Otherwise, Lucky Baskhar ends up as a good festive watch this weekend.
